Definitely, with apologies to Shakespeare, I'm very perplexed at this stage of my Crohn's. The norm has become now that I can go on for 6 days w/o having a single bm. This is totally opposite to what I have been suffering from for 11 years, which is mainly d. So, I started to add a gastric regulator and could have a bm after 6 days. But this regulator causes lower right quadrant cramps and sometimes severe stabbing pain.
Took my Remicade dose yesterday and discussed this issue with the doctor who gave me Remi. She asked whether I did not get cramps when constipated and I said it was perfectly fine. Cramps only hit when I have bms. She explained to me too that this constipation is the cause of the blood clots I got recently. She recommended I continue the regulator.
I have to mention too that my GI decided last time I saw him I should start a slower taper of budesonide and should reach 3 mg at my own pace. I have been on 7 mg of cortiment (budesonide that acts on the colon) and on steroids in general for almost 8 years now. I'm steroid-dependent.
When I get spasmodics to soothe pain, I become constipated, whereas when I take the regulator, I can have a bm but pain hits. Things can't continue like this as I have been complaining from this problem for almost three months but it was overshadowed by the dental abscess which hasn't been cleared up till now.

Hi Minnie,
I just popped by for a moment to see how everyone is doing. I’m so sorry you are struggling with this- so frustrating. Have they ruled out any stricturing or mechanical issues? I know when I had the stricture, I dealt with the most constipation and it was pretty hard to regulate until the stricture was found. Once that was fixed the regularity really improved. I never would have guessed though beforehand that the two were related because it didn’t follow a lot of the “rules”. Also, I know this is a silly question but have you tried the old fashioned prune juice? I found that at which time a lot of the stool softeners and the like made me feel really sick but I managed to work out a pretty reliable system with the prune juice. How are your dental issues doing? I missed this post, I hope it clears up soon.

What is a gastric regulator?
59 yr. old female, diagnosed with Crohn's in terminal ileum Sept-Oct. 2007. Dx. with c.difficile 1/12, 10/14, 11/15, 1/16. Fecal transplant on 2/24/16, and so far, no more c.diff!

5/20/14: Ileo-colic resection surgery after stricturing and partial bowel obstruction.
Not currently on any Crohn's meds and in remission, but struggling with bad IBS.

Dear all, thank you very much. Sorry for not replying earlier.
By gastric regulator I mean trimbutine that regulates motility. It turned out it's my own term and there is no medical term that is called like this 🙈.
Constipation persists. I start to have urgency by day 6 and it is only then that I take glycerin suppositories. Immediately after start the cramps and last for 2 or 3 days for which I take antispadmodics and the vicsious circle starts all over again.

I am not familiar with trimbutine, but on wikipedia I found this:

Trimebutine belongs to the class of medications called spasmolytics. It is used to treat irritable bowel syndrome (spastic colon). This condition is caused by overactive movements of the bowels. Trimebutine works by slowing down or normalizing the abnormal movements of the bowel.

Maybe it is slowing down your bowel too much and you should decrease the dose. I am in remission with my Crohn's but still have slow motility and IBS. I take one Senokot tablet, a stimulant laxative every other day or so. Sometimes the Senokot sends me into D, but then I just back off a little more. I would be in terrible pain if I went 6 days without a bowel movement. Maybe the trimbutine isn's the right drug for you?? Sorry you are going through this!
