I'd try and avoid most carbs (breads, grains, pastas) to assist in you loosing weight (skip the bread, pasta, and white rice). Carbs are bulking, good for body builders but not for us when we are trying to loose weight.
Portion control is a biggie, use a kitchen scale to weigh whatever you are eating and estimate the calories in it. Most of us are guilty of overly-generous portion sizes, present party included haha. You can get an app or use a website to help you track the calories you are eating, and what you should actually be eating.
Yes, fiber can destroy us, you can limit the fiber intake. Generally, fiber is better digested if it is well cooked, so cooked veggies might go over better with your gut then something raw.
Overall, decrease your daily caloric intake, and increase your caloric burn though light exercise. Cutting out 300 calories a day, burning 400 more a day, and a few months time can make a big difference. You can loose 5 pounds over a couple months by doing a few small changes to what you eat, and taking a walk during your lunch break. It's going to take a lot of patience and persistence, with no instant-gratification.
Look at what you eat and cross off a couple things that aren't healthy, like have water or unsweetened-tea as your beverage of choice (both zero calories) over other drinks that have a lot of calories (like juices, alcoholic beverages, and sodas).
Having a few small changes you stick with over months is often easier to comply with then going with a fad-diet that's extreme and unpalatable.
