Hi Kazy, welcome to Healing Well. Sorry to read that you are having such a bad time. When you had your colonoscopy did the dr take biopsy's? Do you have a copy of that report, if not get a copy from the drs office. You need to see what the biopsy's showed. Hopefully this next test will help too. It sounds like the dr is holding medictions until he knows what is really going on with you.

With either crohns or UC a patient can have constipation or diarrhea. I would call the dr & speak to the nurse so she can tell the dr how bad you are feeling. Perhaps the dr can prescribe something to help with the nausea.

Take care.

Hi yes he took biopsies said inflammation and small multiple ulcers in the ileum diagnosed colitis but I’ve another procedure to get to rule out chrons so I guess he is waiting to see for a definitive diagnosis but from what I’ve read Crohns affects this area I have a small letter the report will go to my general practitioner thanks for replying

Hi Kazy,

Sorry you're having difficulty. You last post says it all. It sounds like your GI is being very thorough, which shows good care. It's tough going through the diagnostics to get a definitive diagnosis, but it's absolutely necessary before deciding on an appropriate treatment plan. Hope things get moving along soon, and you can start feeling better. Keep us posted.

Do you have "colitis" or "ulcerative colitis"? I ask as they are very, very different in treatment and prognosis.

Colitis, also known as infectious-colitis, is a onetime infection that quickly clears with a short course of medications (often antibiotics) and is not a repeating problem going forward.

Ulcerative Colitis is a chronic, lifelong illness requiring a maintenance medication for life. They put you on anti-inflammatory medications and/or immuno-suppressants to treat it.

If you were not given medications, then I would suspect you had an infectious-colitis.

They usually want a diagnosis before they start you on medication. If they start you on medication before then and it starts working, it can make it much harder to diagnose you.

So no, it doesn't mean that you don't have Crohn's or UC or another form of IBD. Biopsies aren't always clearcut either. There is quite a large grey area with IBD, which you may - despite the terminal ileum ulcers - fall into. Hence the extra procedure (which sounds like an MRI scan).

MRI scans are actually pretty good for diagnosing small bowel Crohn's. Not perfect but they can give a lot of info that a colonoscopy can't.

Good luck! I hope you don't have this horrible disease, but if you do best to get it diagnosed and started on treatment for it.
