If you would like to attend the dinner go for it. You are not required to eat the meal being offered. We now live in a society of millions of people are on this diet or that diet for one reason or another. You can always have a snack before the dinner so that you are not sitting there hungry. IF anyone were to ask why you are not eating, a simple reply of, I am really not hungry will suffice. I don't know why you feel it would be necessary to discuss your health. Grab yourself a drink of choice & enjoy yourself.
I had to attend a lot of different luncheons & dinners when I worked. I have always been a picky eater & saw more than my fair share of rubber chicken dinners being offered up, lol. I passed on eating & never worried about it.
I am guessing you are talking being up later than usual, you can always duck out when you are ready. For the most part I enjoyed these get togethers. It was fun to people watch which is something I love to do. You would be surprised at the amount of people that still get up very early after they retire. I think our internal clocks get permanently set after working so many years. It is not unusual for me to get up at 4:00am most days, sleeping until 6:00am is sleeping in for me, lol. I enjoy my early morning time when things are quiet. All of our friends of course are retired & early risers. Keeping the normal sleeping schedule is important.
