You're correct. They usually form post surgery or when the body is healing itself after severe inflammation.
Ten years ago I was pregnant and had a severe flare. The doctor at the time told me I had adhesions, but as long as it didn't bother me to not worry about it. He warned I might need surgery in the future. I've been pretty much in remission for the past ten years on Remicade 5mg/kg. We'll be checking trough levels in a few weeks to see if an increase is needed.
I've been having some issues lately, but chalked it up to CD. And then I had a high fever and severe pain. The doctor ordered lots of labs and other tests, which showed some inflammation, but nothing definitive. Then I had a CT earlier this week. The results show that my small bowel (where most of my CD activity historically takes place) doesn't just have adhesions to, but looks to be fused to my right ovary, fallopian tube, and possibly uterus. It looks like a simple sniping of adhesions won't do the trick. I need a resection because of past strictures and will need the ovary, etc taken out because it's formed a mass with the small bowel and the small bowel inflammation has inflamed the mass.
A week before my period I have crohn's related discomfort and more recently a lot of pain. If I have the surgery, I expect I'll feel much better.
I'm getting a second opinion soon, but I don't expect to hear anything too different.
