I haven't been around in HW for a while as I had a lot of work to do. October 17, I got fever, diarrhea and a sore throat. Saw an ENT for the sore throat who immediately suspected COVID and ordered blood work and a CT chest. All came back negative. I was advised to start Coronavirus protocol which I did.
November 17, I had colleagues whom I deal daily with who tested positive for Coronavirus. I developed fever, severe headache and muscle ache. Did tests and all were negative. All my family members started to have the same symptoms as I did. Uptil now both my mum and I have loss of taste and smell.
December 19, woke up from sleep because of diarrhea, vomiting and a fever of 38.6. I keep getting nocturnal diarrhea which I really loathe (these are supposed to have stopped due to Remicade). Contacted my GI who ordered CT chest. Got results of CT chest yesterday. I have patches of ground glass opacities and atelectatic bands in a lung subsequent to a previous viral pneumonia. That shows that the last infection that was a month ago, was COVID too.
Now, I have pain in my right lung. I I quarantined myself and hope nobody of my family will get infected. I also began the home treatment of antibiotics, anticoagulants and multivitamins.
Is this mere luck or is there a relationship between Crohn's and the recurrent infection of COVID-19?

Nothing worse than struggling with a diagnosis. Really hope you get the symptoms under control, and are able to move away from the Covid symptoms.

Minnie, sorry to read what you have been dealing with the past couple of months. It sounds like you had a faulty testing, this happens. I have a friend that got really sick with it & tested positive. She was down 2 weeks & felt great after that period. She had to be tested to return to work & her 2nd test came back positive even though she felt great & had not had a fever for 10 days. Her 3rd test a week later finally came back negative. None of the testing is 100% accurate.
Yes, people are getting it a 2nd time around unfortunately, crohns has nothing to do with it. Isolate from your family living in the house & hopefully they will be fine. I know several that 1 person had it but the others in the house didn't because the infected person isolated. Take good care of yourself.

Minnie,
I haven't been on in a long while. I am so sorry you are going thru this. I don't have any experience in regards to having Covid-but my doctors tend to believe that being on Remicade can help us not get as ill.
I hope you feel better soon.

Clo, you are correct, I have been watching a study about
this & so far nothing alarming has shown up.

The first time you were suspected of Covid, they ordered blood work. I guess they were looking for antibodies, which you did not have. False negative means you could be in the early stage of Covid infections at that time, and your body had not produced enough antibodies to be detected. I totally get that.
The thing that I do not understand is: why didn't they order PCR test a/k/a molecular test at your first test?? Instead, they ordered CT chest at the first time. Can CT Chest do a better job than PCR test to diagnose early Covid infections? I do not think so. Why didn't they combine antibody test with PCR test the first time you were suspected of Covid to maximize accuracy?

Dear all, thank you so much.
I really appreciate it.
The first time, I think Remicade did its job and it went on well without me noticing I had mild viral pneumonia.
This time, the strain is stronger and the symptoms are severer.

Minnie,
Have you looked at the time frame between when you caught it and when you had your infusion? I wonder if that would make any difference? Just a stray thought.
Hope you are feeling better!

Thank you so much, Clo. Well, I couldn't continue the pred course as my heart rate got very fast. I'm getting better but I still get this stabbing pain in my back but I'm coping with it.

Minnie,
So very glad to hear from you! I am sorry about
you are still having issues with Covid. A friend of my sisters family caught Covid and her whole immune system is still out of sync plus they are having trouble getting her insulin levels to stabilize. Its still so new and there are so many unknowns.
Keep fighting the good fight my friend. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
