I was diagnosed with Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) 4 years ago. I was told then that this is another autoimmune disease that affects the skin and comes hand in hand with Crohn's. The dermatologist told me then that biologics were the treatment although I'm on Remicade. This disease has been in quiescence for almost 4 years. Last Saturday, I started to feel pain in my armpit. I suspected HS. Examined my armpit and there was this small boil and a very painful lump beneath. Tried to contact the dermatologist and then I could manage to see him last Wednesday. Upon examination, he confirmed HS in both armpits. I was prescribed levofloxacin daily for 20 days, flagyl 3 times for 30 days and pred 10 mg for 15 days and then 5 mg for other 15 days. I was really shocked by that long duration of antibiotic rounds. I had to take my GI's approval. At the beginning, he seemed not to approve of them and then said it was Ok. I don't know what triggered such a flare up. Could it be that Coronavirus messed up with my immune system especially that I got infected twice in two months in a row? Will try to see my GI to understand as I was only texting him and I need to get his approval for my next Remicade infusion. He told me that he wants to get sure I'm Coronavirus free before I get my next infusion which is due by the end of the month.

No expert here. From what I understand about HS, it is similar to other autoimmune diseases in that it's punctuated by intermittent flare-ups. As far as I know, there is no certainty regarding the cause of this unpredictable pattern.

I hope there's no interruption of your Remicade. Keep us posted on how things go.

Oh no Minnie!! These are challenging times. IMO the virus and everything probably played a part in your flare. The antibiotics...Did I read that right? 2 different types of antibiotics a day? Plus the Devils tic tac.... Yikes!!

Please let us know how you are doing. I am so sorry you are going thru this. Sending you healing thoughts and prayers.
