Hi guys,
I’m due to have my first shingles vaccine (Shingrix) on Monday and just wondering if anyone noticed any adverse effects with their IBD following it? Just wondering what to expect

I hope that you do not have any issues after the vaccination. I wish you good health.

I don't have an answer for you as I too am supposed to take the vaccine sometime this fall. (I have some other health issues that we are hoping resolve by then.) I do have 4 individuals in a support group that have taken the Shingrix in the last year. 1 didn't have any issues, another had a few issues, the next had a mini flare that lasted 3 months and wasn't too bad and the fourth struggled for 6 months. So 3 out of 4 did ok.... I hope that helps.

Please let us know how it goes.

Clo

Hi Clo,
Thanks so much for your feedback. I’m actually quite excited to have the vaccine - I have been worried about getting shingles for the longest time given the inmunosuppression so am keen to have it over and done with. Fingers crossed I don’t have any issues

[I don't know if there is more than one brand of shingles vaccine, but I was told about one being a live vaccine, and to be careful if you are having immune issues? Maybe ask your doctor, they are better to advise before you proceed, not just for the shingles vaccine but for all live vaccines?

Shingrix is not a live vaccine, so the OP should be ok with it.

Hi guys,
Just an update, I had my first shingles vaccine and experienced no GI side effects, which was a relief. I felt really good afterwards other than a dead arm for the afternoon. I’ll have my second dose in a few months after I have my Pfizer Covid vaccine

My reply is a little late, but maybe it will help somebody who reads.

The previous generation shingles vaccine, Zostavax, was a live vaccine and could be an issue for people on immunosuppressant medications.

The newer shingles vaccine, Shingrix is not a live vaccine.

Zostavax was approved in the US around 2005, and by 2020 it was no longer used in the US except in rare cases. Other countries may still use it.

Shingrix was approved in the mid 2010s, I think, and is now the only one available in the US.

I got my first one on 7/29/21. I had horrendous side effects. Arm pain to the extreme, worse than any other vaccine, including Covid vaccine. And severe joint pain for days too. It was all so bad, that I am seriously thinking about not taking the 2nd one. Hope you did okay with yours.

I got shingles a few years ago. At least that's one thing out of the way in my life, I guess. It was pretty painful, but I have been through worst things.
