Apparently when my GI asked another radiologist to read my MRI, the radiologist informed him that I have dyssynergic defecation, which in simple terms, means that while I have a bm, my sphincter doesn’t relax and at the same time, I try to strain which results in anal spasm and that’s why, I have pain caused by this spasm. Also, I developed constipation after suffering from diarrhea for 15 years. My GI prescribed lubiprostone, a medical laxative, but he prescribed me 24mcg and that caused severe diarrhea. So, when I saw him yesterday, he lowered the dose to 16 mcg as I suspected I had fecal impaction as I can become constipated for 5 days. My GI informed me that I have to have biofeedback treatment . I was against the idea and said I wasn’t convinced. He told me it’s not a matter of being convinced or not, I need training. He referred me to a doctor to train me have bms as my sphincter has become lazy. Did anyone have successful stories with having biofeedback treatment for dyssynergic defecation?

Minnie, I looked up this condition online & read about it at our major hospitals here in the states. The pelvic floor muscles are also involved with this condition. I urge you to checked out ClevelandClinic.org & type in this condition. The Cleveland Clinic is a hospital where a lot of people go with complex crohns & UC cases for care. If they live out of state, they will work with a treating physician. Bottom line, according to everything I read, Biofeedback has a very good record for correcting the issues.

Good luck.

Susie, thank you so much. My GI referred me to a doctor who is specialized in biofeedback. As I understood, she will first do some tests to confirm the diagnosis and then we will discuss the treatment protocol with my GI. I will definitely check Cleveland clinic.
