My Daughter has been on Stelara for several months now. Still a bit of a learning curve with the self administering part. She did her injection the other day, and prefers to use her leg. She's pretty thin, and there's not as much fat there as on her abdomen. She noticed a lump form from the shot, then after a couple of days it sort of looked infected.

Anyone encounter this sort of issue? I'm hoping the issue resolves with a topical, but will the medication be absorbed as effectively?

I did this a couple of times with Humira but I never got an infection. I got in the habit of rubbing the area a little after giving myself the shot. I just could not inject my stomach, I had a phobia with that, lol. I injected my thigh & alternated each time. Some times I would get a little drop appear too, my dr told that was fine. She should give either her nurse or her dr a call to see what they have to say.

I hope this clears up.

Thanks Susie,

She did end up seeing the Doctor, and he prescribed an anti-biotic just in case it doesn't resolve. Have to keep an eye for a few days.

I've been on it for about a year and a half. I had one injection where I must have hit a blood vessel. The tiny hole from the shot bled a little, and then I got some dark swelling a couple inches around the injection site. It turned into a black and blue and purple bruise for a few days before it went away on its own.

I used to inject Humira in my thighs. My doctor told me you really should be injecting in your stomach. 3 or 4 inches to the right of your belly button one time, then next time, the left side, rotating back and forth, each injection.
He said injecting in your leg is not a good idea as you can hit an artery and that would be big trouble.
