Hi all,

I dont know what to do at this point. I have had more issues with joint pain in the past 20yrs more so than my stomach. I was placed on remicade for joint pain after trying naprosen, celebrex, and vioxx which all helped my joints but made my stomach flare. I have not had remicade since December 26th since my next one I was due for was Feb 17th and I had emergency surgery the 11th of feb. My joints have been hurting on and off and always get worse around "that time" of the month. I am expecting my period Tuesday and the joint pain got severe while I was in the waitintg room at my surgeons office today. I am really short sao my feet never touch the floor in any adult sized chairs plus it was cold in there. I dont know if that had any effect on my joints.

I am still on 25mcg of fentanyl and took a 4mg of dilauded. When bed time rolls around I will take some tylenol pm and maybe some advil too (advil does not bother my belly and a doctor told me I can take 2 extra strength tylenol and 3 advil all at one time). I placed my lidoderm patches on my right knee and right ankle (the 2 joints that bother me the most) hopefully the pain will go away soon. All the RA drs I have seen cant seem to help my situation with my joints. I have been tested mult times for all different joint diseases with them all negative. I am so uncomfortable sometimes that I even have to sleep with a knee brace and ankle brace on.

Any Suggestions?

Steph,
sorry to hear your still struggling with problems. Do you have a sweet tooth? if so try cutting out all refined sugars and see if ther'se an improvement in your joint pain.
take care.

Steph hi,

I to am sorry that you arwe having such a hard time with all of that joint pain.Believe me when I say I know what you are going through.Tess is right that refined surgars will cause your joint pain werse.I use to use sugar in my Tea and I can not use artifificial sweetners because it triguers miagrains.I know drink my tea unsweeten. It sounds to me that the pain patch and the Dilauded is doing you any good.Have you talked to your Doctor about upping your pain meds or switching to another pain med?If not and if I was you I would talk to him/her and let them know that you are just no getting pain relief with what you are on.I hope that you get some relief from the joint pain.Let us know how you are doing.

Maybe since you took Remicade before they can change you to Humira. I know alot of folks have had alot of relief with the Humira.

Have you tried massage?  I know it's not a solution, but it might help.  My shoulders were giving me fits earlier this week, and after a massage I'm in much less pain and have greater range of motion.  The pain isn't waking me up as frequently in the night, so I'm sleeping better, which makes me feel better.  A positive snowball for a change!

When I first got sick my joints hurt so bad! When I was in the hospital my ankles hurt so bad that my husband had to lift me from bed to the bed side commode. I get aches now but nothing that severe. They ran every test they could trying to figure out what was wrong w/ me and the RA test came back 15 and normal is 14 and lower so the docs said that it wasn't a problem. I don't have any great advice. The only thing that helps - a little anyway - is a hot bath and if i'm luck my hubby will give me a massage. It does sound like your pain meds aren't working. I have never been but have often seen people suggest a pain management clinic, just a thought. Hope you find relief soon.

last night after taking tylnol pm and advil plus the combo with the lidoderm patches the pain finally eased up greatly. The pain meds (fentanyl and dilauded) are from my recent surgeries and I need to be off of them to return to work in 2 weeks. I will still have dilauded po prn but cannot drive with the fentanyl. Hopefully this will be it for my joint pain for a while. I have usually taken advil in the past for it but have been fearful to take more than recommended on the bottle even tho my neuro said it was ok. The reason being is of my newly missing parts of intestines.

Thank you for all of the responses
