Hi,

I am new to this forum.  I have a question?  Is there anybody out there who is a fire fighter with an ileostomy?

Please let me know.  Have some questions!

Thanks.

Hi,

Thank you for the welcome and advice to just post the question :-)

I have had Crohn's since I was 14 yrs old and have had an ileostomy since I was 20 (nice challenge for a young female).  I am now 38 :-)

I am an HR Manager at a great company and have recently started a new "passion" as an EMT with a local Fire Department.  The next step is also becoming certified as a Fire Fighter.  I was curious if there is anybody out there who is a fire fighter with an ileostomy and if they had any tips/suggestions/experiences to share.  They say it shouldn't be a problem but just thought I'd ask.

Thanks in advance!

Congrats on your passion! My fiance (in two months, husband) is a new firefighter/EMT and has met another ff/EMT with Crohn's. I don't know if he has an ostomy or ileostomy, but I will ask for you!

...on a side note...the way I knew that my fiance had found the right 'fit' for him was when he decided to become a firefighter...he is absolutely the strongest person I've ever known; physically, mentally, emotionally, psychologically. If there's something too difficult for Matt to handle physically, he is strong enough mentally to get through it. His strength has honestly been what's helped me since I've been dx'd.

...You're the combination of that strength. The strength that is inherent in any firefighter--the thing that drives them to that passion of finding their 'fit' as a firefighter, and the strength that is inherent in someone who's overcome a very tough and bumpy road.

I am completely in awe of you.

Best,

M.
