Hi All ,This is my first post

Just wanted to know if any of you had the same problems while on pentasa.

I have been taking pentasa 4 the last 3years and prior to that salazopyrin for +/- 10years.

I have noticed over the last 6 months that i'm having really bad joint pain ,in the ankle, knee, hip, wrist, elbow, shoulder, mainly on the right side, the pain lasts from 10mins. to a few hours at a time. I also have numbness in my right hand from the pinky to the middle finger that extends all the way to the elbow this numbness is there all the time.

Last month I had a kidney stone removed

Could all these symptoms be medication related

All replies/experiences are appreciated

Not so sure it is medicine induced. What you described could be side effects of the disease also. Joint problems are very common with Crohns and I personally feel all of us should see a Rheumatologist. I just saw one for the first time earlier this month and will be getting my test results this Friday. The numbness that you talk about sounds like it could be from a pinched nerve or herniated disc. I have had two herniated disc's that required disk fusion surgery. And I had pain that radiated down my arm and caused numbness in my hand and fingers. I think you need to really get in to see either a neurologist or a Rheumatologist. Good Luck and Welcome to Healingwell.

I've had stones and the joint pain. I actually notice the joint pain is better when I take the Pentasa (it seems to sneak up on me when I start skipping doses). Like Nanners said, they are all things that come from the disease as well.

Hope you start feeling better.

Pentasa causes me the same symptoms your are discribing, I cannot take pentasa for those reasons, i get all stiff and tingling and numb and the bottoms of my feet feel so prickly.

Thanks

The numbness in your right hand sounds like a nerve problem. It could possibly be from the Crohn's or the meds, but do you think it could be from something else? Are you right handed? Do you do any repetitive motion activities with your right arm, like playing tennis or the violin, or holding a phone up to your ear for long periods of time? Do you sleep with your right elbow bent all the way? You mentioned joint pain, do you have any swelling in your right elbow? The numbness sounds like a compression of the ulnar nerve, which could be from any of those things, or from something else. Definitely mention it to a doctor.
