how long for folic acid to work?

I started taking colazal (which is the same time of drug as pentasa and asocal both of which made my hair fall out) and got a perscription for folic acid at the same time. My hair has started falling out again. It isn't terrible, but at this point I can't really afford to lose any! The colazal seems to be working well for my stomach issues.

I just started taking it myself. I am sure it will be a least a few weeks before we see any benefit. I also started taking Biotin with it. I am getting ready to start Methotrexate and that causes the hair loss stuff too, but the Folic Acid and Biotin will offset that. Has the Folic Acid upset your stomach at all. I have had a bad stomach for a couple of days and was wondering if that was the cause. I can't normally take vitamins as they make me sick. So I am taking these at bedtime. Will be interested to see what responses you get. Good Luck!

I don't seem to get a stomach ache. I am actually taking persciption strength prenatal vitamins - i'm not preg or trying but my OB agreed to give them to me and I figured it gave me the 1 mg folic acid most people talk about taking plus all the other good vitamins too and with my insurance I only pay $9-15/for a three month supply - way cheaper than the healthstore. Anyway I take one in the morning and one at night. I do take them with food usually - maybe this would help with the stomach ache??? I hope it starts working soon. I can see my white scalp and it drives me crazy. Like my husband says "we always knew we were going to have to deal with a receding hairline but we didn't realize it was going to be both of us!"
