I have been on a 250mg of Imuran for about 2 months. My dosage was upped to 5 pills from 3. Since then I have noticed more blood in my stool…..a lot more….and My joints are killing me…..to the point I have a hard time walking sometimes….currently my left foot is swollen with a knot on the top and is very sore to the touch. I have not seen my Dr. since the first of June and when I called to schedule a sooner appointment they could not see me until October. The PA did tell me to cut my dosage down to 2 pills a day…. Has anyone else has any of these reactions to Imuran? I have had a very bad day today. I have started a new job with lots of training and it is just so hard sometimes. At the moment I am running a fever and feel very achy…. maybe I just have the flue with a bad foot….hahaha….   I do start Remicade treatments in Sept…I just pray that I will see some changes.

Many of the symptoms you describe can be side effects of Imuran - however, they can also be signs of other conditions. I am concerned that you cannot see your GI until October. Do you have a primary care doctor that you can go see? Someone needs to make sure that you don't have an underlying infection causing your fever.

Hi Remicade is good for fistulizing CD so hopefully you will do good on it. Three years is definitely a long time to not be feeling well.I never had swelling with Imuran.I would think your GI would be monitoring your Rem. I see mine about 2 wks. after my infusions. I see yours start in Sept. and your app. with the GI isn't till Oct. at least you can see him then.Sure hope you get feeling better soon and keep in touch with your primary care giver like Ides mentioned.I started the Imuran before my Rem. too.lol gail

250mg of Imuran is a fairly large dose for Crohn's, depending on your size/weight.

Are you getting blood work done at least every month?  With your recent increase from 150 to 250mg, this should be mandatory.  The PA can write up the order for blood tests if the Dr can't.

I went to the ER last night because my temp got above 102’ The ER doctor believes because of the high dosage of Imuran that I have gotten an infection in my foot and after doing a CAT scan she said my bowels were very swollen. My Heart Rate was 155. So I wasn’t feeling very good. But after they gave me some fluids because I was dehydrated, steroids, and antibiotics I began to feel better. I am still going for my Remicade on Tuesday…. but now I’m thinking I will not get to start because of the infection. Thanks everyone for the posts. I’m off on a long weekend so I just plan to rest rest rest!

I certainly hope you're doing better. I'm sure the ER doctor told you to call your GI first thing Monday. Be sure to let them know the details. I wouldn't think they would let you start Remicade with an infection. Again, I hope you get the infection knocked out and feel better very soon.

you do not want to start remicade if you have an infection. You will get very very sick. Rest up and get better. Drink lots of water
