Hey all. So I had my capsule endoscopy today. I was on a liquid diet on Wednesday and Thursday, so it made things a bit easier for the bowel prep Thursday night.

I went in early this morning and was hooked up with all the wires and the computer thing and then I swallowed the pill. I was starving and had to wait the two hours before I could start the liquid diet. Had my nice peach jello (no reds or purples), and then waited longer and had some toast and made myself a cheese quesadilla. It tasted so good after not being able to eat solid food since Tuesday. I felt a bit nauseous and a little dizzy at some points. Been trying to rehydrate myself. Then I came back early in the afternoon to drop off the unit. I'd been having some more jabbing pains, so I mentioned it to them and my GI doc was actually there. So they ended up having him talk to me. He said that since the pain wasn't worse than it has been that it should be ok. He'd look at the video and would get back to me. He's hopeful that it will pass too.

Then tonight I went out to dinner with my family. Everything was going fine and then I had the stomach gurgle. I don't think I had totally finished getting all the prep stuff out (spent some of today doing that)... but this was more of the past Crohn's D then prep D. I don't usually have the gurgle with the prep. I'm not sure what to do. My side is starting to really ache, but I don't know if that's cuz of the D and b/c I also took all the patches off my skin (and they were stuck on tight). I should also mention probably that I have my period today too.. so perhaps that's adding to it. I just don't want to make a big deal of this if it's just normal ending of the bowel prep. So I'm going to give it to tomorrow and see how things are going. My doc was concerned that I might have a stricture and that the pill would get caught there. So I guess I'll have to wait and see. I'm interested to see what they found out.

Hi brit tuck,
I hope the test comes out good for you. It does take awhile for you to get all the prep out of you
system. Try drinking alot of water to flush out you system. It always worked for me.

If the pain does not subside and you do not happen to see the pill in the toilet call your GI immediately. An abdominal xray will also shhow if the pill cam is stuck somewhere in the GI tract. I also had no prep for the cam besides liquid diet the day before and the 2nd time I had the test done (darn thing never reached my ileum) they gave me reglan for a few days prior to the test...still same results...never made it to the ileum while I was still hooked up. Even with my stricture it did pass although I never saw it in the toilet. Hope you are feeling better!

Thank you guys for all your kind thoughts. I'm pretty sure having prep is unusual for a pill cam. But my doctor was trying everything in his power to make sure it doesn't get stuck, especially since I've done two of the patency/disolvable capsules and both of them were shown to be stuck. So he wanted to try and clear everything out as much as possible... at least that was my interpretation of it. That's also why I was on a liquid diet for two days before swallowing the pill cam.

How long did it take your doctors to get back to you about the results? I'm thinking because it's a three day weekend it might take a while longer. I'm still having a ton of D. As gross as this might sound, I think because I'm having so much that I'm somehow actually running out of things to come out. But my body still acts like it has to and so a small amount does. It's kind of like at the end of prep and it's just getting the final amount out. So I thought I was close to being done. And then I had some toast today and it started all over again. It's really frustrating. And I can't take my Naproxen for the period cramps since my doctor said it makes the Crohn's worse. So I am not feeling well and am trying to somehow get caught back up on my reading for law school.

How long do you think I should wait to contact my doctor if I don't see the pill in the toilet? I haven't been able to see anything, but I thought I might hear it, because all I've been having is D. How long does it typically take to pass? Dragonfly37927, since you had a stricture, did it take longer to pass? How did you find out it was out?

My jabbing pains are still there, but they were there before the pill cam. It's not any worse than it was before, except for now it's really tender and sore to the touch in those places. I think I might wait until at least Tuesday before I call my doc. It's nothing worse than I've had before.. and I do want him to enjoy his three day weekend. I'm just trying to stay hydrated since everything is leaving my body as soon as I eat it seems.

Thanks again for responding. It means a lot that other people have gone through this. :-)

I actually was in remission when I had mine done. I then flared about 10 months later and the walk in I went to did an abdominal xray. I have had C issues most of my life so not having a BM for 4 days was a normal occurance for me up until my recent surgeries.

So you didn't know for 10 months whether the pill came out or not? Wasn't your doctor concerned? I have a feeling mine will probably check before then to see if it's out.

I ended up calling my doc to find out if I could take an immodium. I just feel so weak right now since I've been having D almost constantly since Thursday night. That, and I haven't been able to eat much solid food since Tuesday night as well. So anything substantial comes right out. He sounded really preoccupied when he called back and he was just like yea, it's ok. Take an immodium. So I have and am really hoping it works. I just want to be able to get some reading done right now for class. I feel so lousy. Blah..

Hi Brit Those plastic things for catching stool examples would be great for looking for those cams they fit on the toilet.I got one at the hospital and it worked out good.Sure hoping the Imodium did the trick sometimes it can be tiring running to the bathroom all the time especially after a cleaning out I used to feel exhuasted but now I am healthier it is not so bad for me. Did you get some studying in or some rest yet?Wondering how your doing so keep in touch. lol gail

Hi Gail. They told me at the hospital where I took the pill that it wasn't necessary to look through my stool for the pill. That if I haven't seen it, and especially after my doc watches the recording and sees where it stopped, that I can just do the X-ray to see where it is. I figure that sounds a lot better than doing the stool catcher, especially since I've just been having D. Don't want to look through that! :)

The immodium did work. I was so thankful it did, since I was in so much pain and felt so weak that I was practically crying. I was even able to do a little reading, but I did get plenty of rest. Thank you for being so concerned. I'm feeling better today too. I think the immodium is still working and I was able to eat some toast with no issues. So I'm hoping it keeps getting better. My only concern now is that I won't hear back about the results before I have to go to class on Tuesday.. and it's a long day of class that day. I still feel pretty weak and my jabbing pains are also making it sore in those spots too. So I'm a bit concerned... but I will try and wait this out. I just want to know if I have to have surgery or not... and I want to know what that camera found. I'm getting anxious!

Waiting for test results sucks. I never saw my camera but my doc wasn't worried. He said it was just somewhere in the stool. With your stricture issues I'd be more worried. Brit just have your cell phone one silent on Tuesday and in between classes or when you go on one of your bathroom breaks check your messages. That is if you feel up to going to class. Are you comfortable stepping out when you need to? I hope so. Im glad you havent run away from school yet :) My first day of classes for my second year is tomorrow.

I'm trying my best to stick it out with class. My meds had been keeping my episodes of D under control, that is until I did that bowel prep Thursday night. Now it's back to how it used to be. So I'm going to really try this week. I don't have much of a choice though, since we're already in our third week of class. It's already getting to where I can't miss because of assignments and stuff. I have a quiz this week in my legal writing class. The lady in charge of disability services in the law school was really nice. They're supposed to give me double time on things, but the set up of the quizzes in my legal writing class doesn't seem like it's going to allow for that. So we'll see how it goes.. it is only 5% of my grade.

But yea, I will definitely be having my cell on vibrate tomorrow. I don't know if my doctor will have the results back that soon. How long does it typically take for a doctor to watch/view the recording? I really want to find out tomorrow. I still haven't seen anything in the toilet that would let me think it's out. So I'm guessing I'll probably go sometime this week or next and get an X-ray done. I'm just frustrated that I feel worse (because of having the D again) after this dang capsule. I'm dreading this week because I'm not sure if I'll be able to get through it.

Good luck with classes tomorrow Fitzy! :)

well considering your past history with the dummy runs, I find your Dr's attitude a little casual. I'd have got an old plastic seive and bucket and done my business through that, I"d have to know if that little sucker had exited OK.
Now if you get any persistant pain you need to get to emergency ASAP, take care and I hope its passed OK.

So I heard nothing today from my doctor. I'm thinking I'll call on Thursday if I haven't heard anything by then. Still no visual on whether the pill came out or not. Gachrons, I'm not on Pred. I was for about 5-6 days but it wasn't helping my pain at all so my doctor had me stop it. This was a couple weeks ago. Instead he had me do the capsule endoscopy so we can figure out what's really going on. I've used Pentasa too. But now I'm just on Entocort with Librax for the spasming pain. I also get monthly B12 injections and I'm supposed to be taking a calcium supplement since my bone density test showed I have some osteopenia in my spine. But that's really all I'm on for CD.

I'm still feeling kind of crummy but I'm just trying to stick it out through school this week. I just hope I can hear back about this soon. It's driving me crazy waiting to get the results.

So I decided that I am going to call in the morning to try and find something out.. or at least schedule an x-ray to see if the pill came out or not. I also got a message from my PCP today letting me know the results of my blood work in regard to my Vitamin D levels (because of the osteopenia). Turns out they are low.. so the message said they want me to go on 800 IUD of vitamin D. I'm going to have to call about it since I was already told before to take a calcium supplement.. so I was taking Viactiv. I'm not sure if it's the same thing, and if I'm supposed to take the 800 on top of the Viactiv.. or just stop the Viactiv and take the 800. Who knows. Has anyone had any issues with low Vitamin D along with a B12 deficiency? I'm guessing there's no real cause for concern about the vitamin D on top of everything else.. I was just curious. I will let you all know what I find out tomorrow.

So I've got some good news. I went and had my X-ray tonight and they let me look at it. I couldn't see anything that looked like the capsule.. so I'm guessing it passed. Yay!!

The not so good news is that I have to wait probably around two weeks to find out the results of the capsule endoscopy. The nurse said it's a lot of film to go through, so it takes a while. So while the capsule passing means I don't need surgery right now, there is still a possibility that if he finds strictures in the film that I might have to have surgery to remove that. So I'm just waiting and waiting.. and I'm still in pain. Argggg.
