I'm not sure how to write the plural of fistula so I put both.

I've only had one fistula and it was to my bladder.  My daughter had one by her rectum and an abcess from one behind her vagina.  (She walked like she had just gotten off a horse sad    Poor thing)  I'm just wondering where then can appear at?  Can they appear through your abdomin or your butt cheek?  I know they can appear to your bladder, vagina, and through the skin but I haven't heard of anyone having them other places.  Just curious.

Mine appear out to my butt cheek and they start in the rectum ( in the perianal area.)I believe you can get them anywhere though, including stomach and intestines.....

I am very familiar with the horse walk-no fun!

Mine is from the rectum to the outside skin right above my butt-hole. I have heard the same as ginger, they can pretty much appear anywhere they decide and connect to whatever they like. They are such a pain!

Hi Vicky,

I don't have any personal experience with fistulas but my mom who had CD had them. Most of them were around the rectum but two burst through her appendectomy scar. As painful as the rectal ones were, I think she felt the ones on her stomach were the worst. She had to tape 4X4 gauze over the area to catch the liquid bm that came out of them and the tape tore her skin apart not to mention what the acids in the bm did to it. As far as I know, they can indeed break out anywhere. This was and is my biggest fear with CD.

Which ever way you spell it they must be one of the most vile manifestations of this disease. Some days its hard to read about the suffering they cause.

I remember someone on another forum that had one tunnel into her hip joint, which was described as excruciatingly painful (if memory serves). My experience has been vaginal only. I'm hoping I don't get any more.

The plural of fistula is fistulae.
