Philly - Dr. Francis Dufrayne at UPenn.  He is fantastic.  He spends time with me making sure I am getting all my questions answered.  He knows a lot about all of the newest treatments and weighs them as options against the older ones.  I never have to wait too long in the waiting room for an appointment.  The staff is friendly and efficient (and if you go as often as I do, about once a month, they'll get to know you by face/name.)  If you call him between appointments with a question, he personally will call you back within two days.  Also the office is linked to UPenn which is a great hospital.  Oh and if you have an emergency the on-call staff is excellent.

Where are you exactly?  I go to a GI in Lancaster about a  1 1/2 hour drive west of Philly.  I really like my GI and the other ones that I have met and seen in the practice.

It is called RGAL (see www.rgal.com) for information.

Deese,
I have seen a few of the leading docs in the phila area. As prof said Dr. Deren @ Presby is supposed to be the leading doc in the industry with IBD....as far as my experience with him.....****ing jerk....as he only looks for classicl signs/symptoms of IBD...I wen to see him three years ago and he stated to my mother while I was out of the room "it is all in his head", needless to say since then I have been dx'd with crohns. I suggest Dr. Choudhary (female) at Jefferson U....she is great, and takes the time to look at your case.....Dr. DeMarino is also good there. Also I had great experience with Dr. Tokar at Fox Chase....he is young but is willing to think outside the box....he actually got my insurance to cover an expensive test (double balloon endoscopy, a scope which can go all the way through the intestinal tract)...there are only a handful of doctors who perform this test in the US at this time. If you have anymore questions you are more than willing to contact me through me personal email as I have seen a ton of "experts" about this crazy disease.

I use Dr. Lubinski in Abington. He's part of a large group, but trained at Johns Hopkins and seems up on things. He IS part of a large group and the only problem I've had with having to see other docs is when I'm in the hospital.

He has a great personality and is very caring.

Good luck!
