I had my regular CBC and ferritin levels checked at Remicade infusion recently and the Total Proteins came back slightly elevated (4 weeks ago) so my doc ordered Protein Serum to see which protein was the culprit.  The Gamma Globulin came back high 2.3 g/dL.  The doctor now wants me to go see a hemotologist.  He believes that this is a benign monoclonal gammopathy but wants to make sure.  The words "myeloma and lymphoma" keep popping up with searches and quite frankly I am scared to death.  My luck with Crohn's for the last 14 years hasn't been the best.  IF there is a possible side effect I am usually the one gal that gets it. UGH.

I have been on Remicade for about 4 years now and the last 4 infusions have given little or no relief.  Shingles and small infections seem to rear their ugly head recently and I am so tired.  I can't even get out to go to the store.  My husband thankfully has been so helpful.

My question is, Has anyone gotten a high result on their Gamma Globulin rate and been told they have Monoclonal Gammopathy?

Could it possible that inflammation will cause a high result with this particular protein?  I have also wondered if I haven't developed another little autoimmune disease to hang out with my Crohns...hoping it isn't Lupus...

Hi Gelliebeans, I am sorry but I have no idea what could be going on. 1 thing I know for sure is that you have to try to relax and wait before jumping to conclusion (easier said than done!) because you will make your crohns worse. Also keep in mind that the bad side effects you are talking about are just extremely rare and that you have been screened on a regular basis with blood test. When is your apt with the hematologist? Keep us posted and in the mean time, sending lots of positive energy your way. Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks Sad Mom,
I am trying to remember not to jump off to any conclusions but you are right, easier said than done. :)
My hematologist appt is in a couple of weeks. Ahh specialists.
