Hi to all, new to the site and crohns.  Wish it could have been me but turns out it is my 13 yo daughter.  After recent Dr. visit we are going to try remicade for urgency and frequency problems (she is now being home schooled).  How is it administered and are their side effects?  We didn't get a chance to discuss with Dr. we were going to try an enema first, but how can you ask anyone with crohns to try that expecially a 13 yo, hasn't there been enough trama already.

Thanks for any info on this subject.

And to all who face crohns everyday I salute you, you guys are my heros!

Thanks again

Thanks so much for the information. Did you have any side effects from remicade?

I have been on Remicade every 8 weeks since October 2005. At first it made me pretty tired especially the day of the infusion and a few days afterwards. They pre-medicate me with Tylenol and Benadryl and I have it in outpatient area at the hospital. It takes about 2 1/2 hours or so. The Remicade website does have a lot of info also. It has worked for me so far. I have had a few infections a few weeks afterwards and wondered if it was due to it lowering my immune system. Lately though getting infections, i.e strep or pneumonia hasn't been a problem. I usually get a blood test 1 hr before the infusion to check my white blood cell count and answer a questionaire. I also take Imuran which is an immunosuppressant drug. I hope your daughter has a good response with the drug. It has kept me from having surgery again so far..

Hello SupportMom,

My name is Rebecca and i was dx'd when i was 12. I had been in and out of the doc with nothing working. On Prednisone for 6 MONTHS when i started gettin Remicade Infusions. Just like you my mom freaked out and thought how is she going to handle going to get an IV every 8 weeks for what could be the rest of her life. Now here i am 30 lbs heavier( which WAS NEEDED), almost 18 years old and off all medication except Remicade. Remicade has saved my life in more ways then one. It kept me from surgery, got me off of that awful steroid and gave me my life back. I hope that your daughter does well on Remicade and as for the infusions....tell her....they dont hurt. I actually enjoy getting my remicade. (if anything its a day to relax...which is needed when your a senior in high school)

Remicade is the MIRACLE that God sent me when i was sick and alone and scared. I hope your daughter feels the same way one day.

Good Luck and keep us updated.

Oh and welcome to HW.
