I saw the GI today and due to my symptoms (as noted in the post titled "do my symptoms indicate colon/rectal involvement") he ordered a small bowel follow through. He feels my symptoms might actually indicate more small bowel involvement than just the ileo-cecal area. So, any tips or suggestions from those who have already had this test would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I had one. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids afterward otherwise the barium might cause some constipation problems. Here's a good description of the test procedure:
Small Bowel Follow Through at U of W.
Bring a good book to read in between while you wait to do films.
Also, I hold my nose when I drink the barium. It seems to help my gag reflex. The stuff is so thick and chalky.
Good luck. It really isn't all that bad. I have had many!
