Hello all,

I had another follow up with my colorectal surgeon today.  I informed him of the pain I have been having (mainly L side of the colon...I only have 1/2 a colon left anyway).  He wrote out an order to check for C. Diff since I still am having D and also pain.

How do they obtain the sample for the C diff test?

I informed him I started questran today I took a dose about 10am.  Yuk it is orange flavored...and I wanted to mix it with apple sauce...let me tell you that was some gross applesauce.  I have had 2 loose stools since then and lots of bowel sounds/gas.  I am afraid to pass gas since again last night I pooped instead...right through my pants and even onto my chair.  If the C diff comes back negative rather than have me go for an 18th CT scan (sicne feb 11, 2007) he would send me for an MRI.  He said it all feels good though it is all soft to the touch etc.  He feels it may be IBS in the colon since I have never had colonic involvment with my CD.  I informed him of my new job (he works at two hospitals in my state and the one I wil be working at is one of them) and how they want me to get the combo tetnus shot.  He said it would be best to call my GI since I am on entocort.  I know I cannot get live vaccines and I am unsure if the dyptheria or the whooping cough portion of the vaccine are live or dead and I really dont want to leave it up to the Dr that does the pre-employment physical.

My surgeon didnt find it odd that I still need pain meds daily (I was on the fentanyl before with dilaudid for breakthrough pain).  He gave me another script for the dilauded, I have to typically take 1 or 2 a day to dull the pain.  I kind of hope it is C diff that is ailing me at least that has a cure rather than IBS, considering no matter what I eat I have D (even on the brat diet)

I just put in for another refill of my pain meds and my surgeon denied it. He's such an egotistical $%^%! I was unable to do anything for the 2 months following my surgery because of my wounds (4 of them that I truly blame him for), and now that I can do things, my abdomen hurts a lot for a day or 2 after I do anything. He doesn't think it's important. Grr......

Sorry to hijack your thread.

I'm glad your doctor is going to look into other things that may be causing your pain, your surgeon sounds like a good guy. Hopefully they'll find something easy to treat.

Glad you are getting better judy, was wondering how you have been.I had my Sx june 20th and he is really a great surgeon. In that practice there are 4 of them, all of which I had as Drs since my issues this yr. I was supposed to have 1 Dr, who is like the #1 colorectal surgeon in the state. He went on vacation tho the day after I was admitted in the hospital, I had him visit a cpl times when it was his weekend on call though while I was in the hospital. Then I ended up with my surgeon, actually the hospital where I will be working...the VP of the hospital was Dx with colon cancer and he chose the Dr that I have...that makes you feel good about ur doc. Then about 2 weeks after being in the hospital (this was after the 2 Sx) my Dr went on vaca so I had one of the other assoc. The other Dr in the practice saw me when it was his weekend on call and he actually assisted my surgeon in my reversal since my Dr new it was going to be complicated and didnt want a resident as his assist.

Actually my surgeon and his wife just had a baby a cpl months back and the baby was in the office today :). My Dr knows I want kids in the near future if my CD allows. His wife will be returning to work in Oct and she is actually a high risk OBGYN, so I am planning on changing to her since my current doc is only a GYN. I want to call and set up an appt with her to get myself into the practice as well as to have the annual stuff, I havent had that done in 2 yrs now, last yr I began flaring and its been a rollercoaster since then.

I start my new job the 24th and hope I wont have any accidents, but I will carry spare underwear and pants with me at all times, Also I hope I dont get the urge while in the parking lot....employees literally have to take a shuttle from their lot to the hospital. At least now I am able to hold it til I get to the bathroom unlike before where it just would come out with no warning.

If I remember right, I picked up a cup at the lab, and then brought it back! Make sure they do the test twice from two different poop samples. So, your dr. will have to order the test twice. My dr. at the University of Michigan said that that was very important because there is a high chance of false negatives.
