I've been Dx'd with CD in the terminal ileum but my main problem seems to be bloating/swelling/pressure in my upper middle abdomen (right between and below my lowest ribs). Doc says this could be related inflammation but didn't say he saw anything there during my scopes. I do not have any lower right side pain, but do have what feels like lots of spasms throughout all my intestinal and colon areas. Anyone else have similar problems?

Yes, absolutely. Is it where it almost feels like its your bottom ribs that hurt? Thats how I feel. My idiot doc said there was nothing on my CT scan in that region so it couldn't be the CD that was causing the pain. In fact, you know what? I bet we're both imagining it. devil

sorry, having issues today ;)

i just wanted to let you know that is the same place where all my pain started. i was so convinced i had stomach ulcers because of the location but after the good old colonoscopy revealed ulcers in my terminal ileum and a stricture i was diagnosed with crohn's last month. i asked my regular dr. about why i get pains there (and also, same thing, -very rarely- do i get pains on my right side) and he said it is where all the nerve endings to the small intestines are. i haven't confirmed that with my gi, just figured i'd pass on that tid bit for you :)

I do have pain in those areas and have yet to figure out why and as with you the GI docs don't seem to think much of it. I had my gallbladder removed even though all test were negative thinking it had to be that as did several docs and I still have pain in that area. If you find out what the cause is please let me know then maybe I can suggest my docs check the same thing.

I also have the pain and bloating in that area. I had doctors tell me that I need pain management, however my GI knew I had pain and he just kept right on plugging away. After a second endoscopy they found that my CD is most active in the small intestine at the top of my stomach. He also told me that even though I am not flaring as much as I was, that the pain and tenderness that I feel there is very common for IBD and CD patients.

alleluia!!!! I knew I wasn't imagining it ....my crohn's is in my terminal ileum ...I did not do a upper endoscopy but I have pain in my upper stomach...I actually have 3 types of pain
1 I have pain in my right side
2 I have pain on my under my right rib cage and sometimes it feels like someone in punching me in the middle of my stomach beetween my rib cage.
3 I have pain before going to the bathroom or/and during my BM or/and after my bm.
so I am constently in pain ....it's just everywere and I don't know what to do...if I have to change my diet or not

anyway enough about me
thank you so much ohana for posting this question....I feel relieved that I am not the only one who has pain in my upper abdomen

than you

Hey, I've been having the same things happening too. It's only been going on for a couple months but I mentioned it to my doctor. He had me do a capsule endoscopy, and I'm still waiting on the results. He mentioned that it might possibly be a stricture, even though nothing has shown up on CT scans and MRI's. I'll let you know what I find out when I get the results. Hope you start feeling better and get something figured out as well. This pain sucks! I was so bloated and crampy the other day I thought I looked pregnant and felt like I was going to explode! Anyways, you are not alone. Hope we figure this out.

Dustspeck has it 100% correct. I just spoke with my GI and wish I could draw on here, but he showed how all down the digestive system there are alot of nerves shooting out and that is what causes the upper ab pain. Also called referred pain.
