I've been treating my mouth with my prescription mouthwash now for 2 weeks, yet
still my mouth is burning so badly. I don't have ulceration, but areas of large red
swelling, especially around the inside of the lip area, giving me that punched in the
mouth feeling. The rest of it feels like I've eaten a hot potato. I even have a problem
speaking at times, as my tongue feels too large for my mouth. If your mouth hurts
this bad, it's no wonder we get bad bellyache. I've always suffered more with the
inflammatory kind of crohn's, that's why I obstruct so often. Does anyone have the
same problem with their mouth, if so, what have you tried. My medicine is made
up of 4 ingredients, antibiotic, nystatin, lidocaine and tylenol. Cheers

I also suffer from crohns in my mouth. That is how they first discovered that I might have it before the small bowel follow-thru was done. I use the mouthwash as you describe above. But your description also sounds like you may have oral thrush, which during my flares I sometimes get due to our bodies decrease immune function and if you are on prednisone, remicade, humira, or 6mp these can lower your immune response. For oral thrush when the mouthwash will not work, you can try Diflucan 200mg qd or go straight to the nystatin oral rinse. The key to telling if it is oral thrush is a yellow covering on your tongue. My mouth is very sensitive and almost stings when I have this. I also get granulomas (red bumps) that appear but mine do not hurt unless they are the aphlous ulcers (the red with the white head that appears). I have had two mouth surgerys to remove the granulomas when they get to big. Hope you feel better.

I get sores in my mouth often. I just rinse with peroxide. My wife is on chemo and they gave her a script for what they call magic mouthwash. It has some sort of pain killer in it that numbs the hot spots. You may want to ask your doc for some.

Magic Mouthwash is the prescription with the 4 ingredients she mentioned above. Normally it contains, nystatin, benedryl, hydrocortisone. Sometimes we put tetracycline in it as the antibiotic.

RxCrohnie, thanks for your post. I've had yeast infection numerous times in the past, but the doctor swabbed me this time
and there is no thrush, and I do swear by diflucan in that case. I also have no yellowy, white spots, just these large red
areas. Sniper I think I'm already taking what they consider the magic mouthwash, but with this one you have to swish,
swirl and swallow, you can only take it 2x a day, and you must not miss a dose or stop taking it without you doctors say
so. Weird huh. I think I need to talk to my doctor again, as I thought I would be seeing some improvement by now.
Thanks guys. Have a good night.

Judy, they have a saying in England "face ache" it's implying that you have a problem you look unhappy etc; Well I'm that
for real. I'm also literally a pain in the a*** too, but I guess I'll get over it. BTW did you read my first post about CD
in your mouth & stomach, I left a message for you, I wondered if you read it. Take care....
