I working in my 10th day of flagyl 500mg 3 x a  day.

My script is for 30 days. I was just wondering if you guys take it for that long. It seems last time I took flagyl it was for 12 days.

The side effects suck!

I took it for 11 months. Then I went off of it for a month or so, and then back on for a few months. It works really well for my crohns. What side effects are you having?

Bad taste in my mouth, nasua . Just overall bad feeling. Im on pred toobut that usually makes me feel like a champ!

Maybe its the mix of the asacol, pred, and the flagyl. I would love to have a drink too, but Ive been told to stay away from alcohol on flagyl.

Anyone ever had a beer on flagyl?

I always took my flagyl with choc. milk.....it killed the taste and there was no aftertaste either. It starts disolving as soon as it hits moisture, so I would always take a little drink of the choc. milk, then pop the flagyl, and then follow it down with more choc. milk.  That way, I don't get any of the taste.  Make sure you definitely take it with food.

As far as the beer goes, this has been discussed on here before, and if I remember right.....it will make you throw up violently. Someone also has posted that it is given to alcoholics in detox programs.

I took flagyl for about 2 weeks back in feb. I felt awful as well. Killed my apetite made me nauseated and no energy. I don't react well to any antibiotics.

I was on it twice in the past 6 months. Each time it was for 10 days. I had cramping in my stomach while I was taking it. But I was also taking Prednisone, Levaquin and Pentasa all at the same time so it might have been the combination of all of these that caused the cramps.

DO NOT drink alcohol while you're on flagyl. You'll get violently ill. I took it for a few weeks but then switched to Cipro because I couldn't stand the side effects and missed having a glass of wine. You also need to wait something like 48 hours to drink after quitting Flagyl until it is all out of your system. Be careful w/ anything containing alcohol, even mouthwash.
