I'm currently taking Pentasa and Xifaxan for Crohn's in my Termianl Ileum.

Has anyone experience severe bilateral leg/calf pain?  Itchiness in hands/feet?

Thanks for your info!

Welcome to Healing Well, mlr! Lots of our members do take or have taken Pentasa. And some members have had good results with Xifaxan.

One of the more common side effects listed for Xifaxan is mild itching and skin rash. Pentasa can also cause itching, rash, and other skin problems according to the prescribing information.

In looking at the info available for Xifaxan, I don't see any listing of problems in the legs like arthritis or cramps. Pentasa lists leg cramps as a rare [<1%] side effect. Have you discussed the leg cramping issue with your doctor? People with CD often do not absorb nutrients in food as well as they should. Elements like potassium and magnesium are important and a lack of either can cause leg cramping. Simple blood tests can check these levels. Also, dehydration can cause one to get muscle cramping. I am really prone to leg cramping from dehydration because one of my blood pressure pills is a diuretic.

I'm glad that you found us....
