I had surgery to put a pernament seton in for an anal fistula.  That was in May.  Everything was fine for a while and i felt no pain down there until now.  The past month or so i have had bad pain down there.  It feels really sore and burns alot especially in the evenings.  they did a cat scan and they didn't find anything and it's not infected, so what's the problem.  Like i said it didn't start hurting until about a month ago and it has hurt every day since.  It's honestly driving me crazy but my doc isn't big on pain meds and besides i'm supposed to have this in forever and i certainly can't be dependant on pain meds for the rest of my life.  I've tried taking the baths and anything else i can think of.  My crohn's is under control so that's not the problem.  Basically does anyone else have the pain problem with the seton???  What have you done to cope and deal with it and if you did have the pain, what did your doc say the problem was cuz mine didn't say much.    Thanks so much!

I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. I've been there and sympathize with you. Last year, I had a seton drain, and it was SO painful after sitting and working all day. As a Receptionist, I have to sit at my desk to answer the phone. Back then, I had to take a pain pill just to get through the day.

It was exhausting to be in pain every day, but the medicine did help me get through. I think it's wrong that your doctor will not prescribe anything for you. If I were you, I'd go to another doctor to get some relief.

Take care,
Cecilia

Since my seton surgery and radiation in my rectal area, I use ALOT of Aquaphor. It really helps clean and sooth the area. Buy the big tub of it at Walmart and use it several times a day. I have found nothing else that helps
