Both my daughter and I have Crohn's.  My granddaughter just turned 6.  My daughter is concerned that Skyler might have crohn's since she is so tiny, gets mouth ulcers, says her tummy hurts fairly frequently.  She talked to her pediatrician and the doctor ordered blood tests.  I'm not sure if it's the prometheus test but does that show if you have crohn's or just that you're pre-disposed to getting it in the future?  I think it checks your DNA markers.

The Prometheus test for IBD looks at the levels of several different antibodies in your bloodstream, antibodies that are specific to Crohn's or UC.  It's not a genetic test.

Prometheus does have another test, this one is genetic, that tests for a person's ability to metabolize Imuran or 6-MP.  This test is called the TPMT Genotype.

The pediatrician probably ordered the first, or possibly just ordered tests for ESR and CRP, two tests that look for inflammation markers.

Thanks Beave, I had both tests but at the same time when I had bone marrow suppression. The doctors started to think that I had bechet's instead of crohn's but it turns out I did have Crohns and that I couldn't metabolize 6-mp. I just wish they had run the test before I started 6-mp.

Your GI didn't give you the TPMT test before prescribing 6MP? Mine refused to allow me to fill the prescription until the test came back okay.

We did the prometheus test on my son and it came back negetive... a year later we did a capsul edoscope and it became clear that he has Crohn's. We are also in the testing proces for our youngest (he is six) and his prometheus test came back negetive, but in his colonoscopy it showed a possible ulcer in his terminal ilium. Biopsies have been normal the really only effective test that we have found for our boys has been the sed rate and the pill cam(capsule endescope). Our Ped.GI said that it is really hard to dx in kids and that it is just best to wait for disease progression. I doubt that this helps, but if I had to do it over again I would have just gone straight for the capsule....
Hope things work out.

Hi guys, I need your prayers. Michelle's pediatrician just called her and found something in my Granddaughter's test results. Wants Michelle to come in on Monday morning for a meeting. I'm so scared for both my daughter and granddaughter. Please say some prayers for my family.
