Hey guys,
I realized recently that during each of my flares I tend to have lower back pain. Should I be checked for AS or is this just a part of Crohn's? The back pain is annoying but it fades with my gut pain.

If you haven't been diagnosed with Crohn's, how can you go ahead and suppose that you either have Crohn's arthritis or AS?

AS is far more painful than Crohn's arthritis in the spine (not to say that it isn't painful itself). AS patients have considerable trouble with moving, sitting in the same position for extended periods of time, standing, etc. Crohn's arthritis isn't as debilitating in regard to mobility in comparison to AS or RA.

If you truthfully have Crohn's, spinal arthritis or back pain is very common. Often during my flares, I complain more about my flank pain than I do about the pain in my abdomen.

Actually, (though now I'm getting hit really bad in the back, so this is no longer TOTALLY true..) my backaches in yesteryears were unpleasant, but Crohn's arthritis made them seem like a picnic.
Of course, I'm also wondering if its AS starting as well. At any rate I have at least 2 different kinds of arthritis as of now, with a 3d just as likely. Ain't CD just grand?

I am in a flare at the moment and experiencing extreme back pain, especially when I sit down, I had no idea what it was but I have also had crohn's related arthritis problems in the past, just never in my back before...

Ok thanks guys... cbk you are right. We are decided between more than just AS and Crohn's :) My doctors have no clue whats going on but I believe it to be Crohn's at least for now.
