I just got home after a 9day stay in the hospital which is one of my shorter stays over the years. I was admitted for possible partial obstruction even though a test two days before didnt showed I didn't have  one. I had ongoing abdominal pain, couldnt eat or drink liquids without pain, etc. I was basically too weak to not go in. I was told that I have an unusal pattern of Crohn's disease that it is "usually all or nothing with me". I guess I don't do in between. I am not one that is usually in pain or even has small attacks of the disease, I am either well or sick and if I am sick I end up flat on my back in the hospital. I was also told today before was discharged that I have a small fistula between my small intestines and colon. I know the Remicade should help with this and they said they didnt think I needed surgery yet ??? I also take Imuran, Nexium, B12, Pentasa. I think I have a stricture in my terminal ileum again because I had a blockage in 2005 and it cleared after 3days and I was still in pain for almost 14 days and they almost did surgery then. The pain is always in the lower right quadrant near the umbilicus area. They said while I was in the hospital "is this similar to your Crohn's pain and I said yes it is the same pain as when I am obstructed even though no tests showed that." They kept saying also that the markers didnt show I should be feeling that much pain or something like that. I know that if I am confusing the Mayo doctors my case must be a little weird or something. Anyways I am home now and feeling tired but better.

Welcome home. I bet it felt so good after 9 days, and it's nice to hear you say you feel better. Let's hope it stays that way.

Thanks, I am tired and happy to be home. I have just got to follow up with my GI next week and discuss the fistula issue. They said it was an "old one". It was the first I had been told from any tests that I had a fistula so I will have some questions at my next appt. My GI is a Remicade and Fistula expert so I know I am in good hands.

Glad your home and no surgery necessary. Hope your feeling more like your old self soon. I think at times we are all a little confusing to the docs just cause it case seems to be so indiviualized. I love it when they say nothing shows we should be having the pain we are having and yet we are the ones having it.

I have been on Remicade every 8 weeks since Oct 2005. My GI is going to increase the dosage at the next infusion in Oct. I had been having some feeling of it wearing off a few weeks before I would be getting it again, etc. and that started in June. I had an MRI in June and I wasn't told about a fistula then but I had one in the hospital on Friday and they told me today that there was fistula showing. I will let you know what my doctor says about it. He usually is pretty informative and offers several ways to try and work with this disease and starts with the least evasive if possible. They just told me to be careful with my diet, low roughage etc and sent me home with some Percocet which I havent needed yet and I am on Prednisone which will need to be tapered down from 30 mgs. which is where it is right now.

Hi Yes I am on low roughage and it helps alot with not getting pains for me .I had my Rem. upped last month my 5th IV have noticed my BM's are more and passing air good .I have mostly solid Bm's now with some D but I am down to 5mgs of pred. and should be off it next week. So I am hoping the pred. works good for you and your diet keeps you painless. I might stay on that diet forever. lol gail
