I have my first bad fissure thats being treated with suppositories by a colo-rectal doc and i was wondering if it was casued by the crohns or just by my haveing to go so much becasue of my flare. would my remicade help to heal it as well?

mostly likely from all the bm. then again the cd and bms go hand in hand with each other.

when i had mine it was during a bad flare.

sitting in warm water with epsom salt helps also.

good luck.

The first time my GI saw me, he took a history, looked over the lab reports, studied the scope and path reports and then did an exam. When he got to the rectal, one look at my 5 fissures and he proclaimed, "Yep, you have Crohn's!"

I have 2 fissures, one of which I am going for a Botox injection in the next few weeks! (Mine are REALLY REALLY REALLY BAD) From what has been explained to me, Crohn's makes you very susceptible to fissures. I got mine from going to the bathroom so much but now they are not healing because of the crohn's. It's all directly connected. Remicade is supposed to be one of the few medications proven to show improvement with the perianal disease but it's not guarenteed to work. My insurance is giving me a headache so I opted not to risk them not covering Remicade. Surgery is out of the question so let's see what the Botox can do...

You bet your life! I think its one of the nastier aspects of this DD too. I have had periods when I couldn't get in a car seat without screaming because of fissure pain..

Bath with epsome salts, no, it won't sting, it will help heal quicker though....then gently rub extra virgine olive oil, it's a natural anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-viral, it helps heal as well...trust me.

With CD it's common to get fissures but not necessarily for everyone or all the time either.

Iv'e come to the conclusion that crohns causes every thing from diaper rash to athletes foot. Mostly lack of money and sleep and peace of mind. It causes high toilet paper bills and sewer usage fees , plus fear of flying, or long drives or short trips or being in places where there are no rest rooms. We end up having our heads shrunk when its our hemies we need to shrink. Even we shrink. We shrink from going to ball games , we shrink from birthday parties, we shrink from passing gas in public places. So if you are wondering if any late breaking discomfort may be caused by crohns,,,,it is...

and here i thought it was ulcerative colitis that caused all this stuff. sniper, it's killin' me trying to refrain from commenting on your 'shrinkage' problem.

I share sniper's view, i think the fissures are certainly a direct result of Crohn's

but Homer Simpson has a different take on it,

Has anyone had problems with fissures for a long time, without ever having fistulas or abscesses? Or do fissures mean abscesses and fistulas are in the works for sure?

I wonder because I keep getting these really tiny fissures that dont really hurt (itch a bit) that go away after a few days.
