along with extreme tenderness in the lrq i had pain througout the abdomen including higher up. the pain higher up was from ulcers in the small intestine and it hurt all the way up under my ribs sometimes. it hurt right after i ate too. the upper gi series, where you drink the barium is what showed the ulcers in the small intestines. i don't know if that helps but i think it just depends on where the crohns is in the intestines and also the pain can be referred to areas that may not be affected directly by the disease.

hope your son feels better soon!

I had that pain also, it turn out that I had a stricture, and the pain was a result of the food trying to get through.

i also get pain in my upper abdomen and i have crohn's in my terminal ileum. i really thought i had gallbladder issues considering where the pain was. but my gp told me that is where all the nerve endings are to your small intestines. i am also on entocort & pentasa but have had these pains way before diagnosis.

take care!

I had that pain too and my dr dx me with primary scherossing cholangitis which is a liver disease that is caused from my crohns. most people with this disease are cd people. It is a very slow progressing disease but can cause this pain, light/white bms, yellowing of the skin etc. Might ask your dr about it. No cure but that's nothing new for us cd ers eh?

I have this kind of pain too, despite the fact that my CD is in the terminal ileum. The pain is often a bit on the left side, often close to the waist, when it's bad I can't sleep lying on the left side.

If I have eaten supper or dinner quite late, and the food contains too much spices and I add a beer or a glass of wine, the pain is both on the left and right side, just below the ribs and it's BURNING from my ribs to my waist. That is another pain.

I also have a third pain: this is a sudden and stabbing pain. This is strong and hard to handle, it makes me stand up, like a reflex, and I find it hard to breath.

And so there is the stricture pain. This one is a colic pain, it's like a lot of gas is running from the left to the right over the abdominal area, this one gets really hard and crampy, and tells me it's going to be an obstruction during the closest hours. This pain is getting to hard to handle, and I use to walk around and carefully sip water to help the food moving down the intestines. This obstruction is due to the fact that my intestine has got a narrowed area. Not everyone have this. The narrowing occurs when the inflammated piece of intestine has got scars or too much inflammated intestinal walls. If this pains get worse and I vomit a lot, I have to consider going to the ER to get professional help. The narrowing problems often leads to a surgery sooner or later.

I doubt that the medicines is the reason why he has so much pain. It's rather the Crohns itself. But to be sure, ask his GI. You may find some information or some course that can help you to feel more secure whats going on.

Hope your son is better now,
the best from Ingrid
