I cannot have coffee for the life of me.  I have proven it about 30 times now.  I have 2 sips and I am running to the bathroom in pain.  Why????  I am not a HUGE coffee drinker but I love to have my one cup in the morning on my way to work.  How can it react so quickly?  This is very frustrating especially since everyone around me thinks I am nuts and says that it is all in my head!

I have the EXACT same problem. If I ever have C I take a shot glass or less size sip of coffee and I am going. I can't even handle the smell anymore without feeling sick. I bought ice tea from Dunkin Donuts and it smelled like coffee and I couldn't drink it. I miss coffee so much too. I decided to drink it once any way four years ago. A big frapaccino in the Las Vegas airport. I was sick my entire plane ride home. I havent touched it since except in the rare circumstances that I need to go. I don't know why or how but it is an instant laxitive for me.

If I'm constipated, a sip of coffee and a cigarette, and I'm off to the bathroom!!!!!  I only drink decaf now, and I do miss regular coffee, but the pain is just not worth it.

Hi,

I was just wondering, do you get the same reaction with decaf? Just wondering if this could help to get the coffee without the d reaction. Keep well!

ANY kind of coffee does it for me. I dilute my coffee to 1 part coffee and 3 parts water and it still does it. My nose just smells it and my tummy starts rumbling. I, however, can't go more than 2-3 days without having a diet soda. I have tried getting off of it completely twice just to see if I felt better and it actually made things worse. For some reason the carbonated drinks make me less gassy and bloated. Maybe I pass more gas and thats the reason I don't feel bloated but I know I can't go off of it completely.

i thought i was crazy, because just the smell of coffee makes me go. lol, i swear sometimes this disease is a real trip. i hate coffee but when i lived with my parents they would have the coffeemaker on early and off i would go. i never drink the stuff unless i'm constipated (rarely) and coffee does the trick.

I thought the coffed wasn't agreeing with me since my last surgery, but through trial and error I realized it was the milk that I added, not the coffee. I switched to CoffeeMate (no dairy) and I haven't had any problems since.

I had a soda the first time since surgery a few days ago and the next morning I was sick as a dog. I never used to drink soda very often before the surgery, but of course now I'm craving it.

I'm a big time coffee drinker, don't touch much of anything else. I don't get problems with it, but my beloved bowl of
cereal or ice cream is a huge no no. I sometimes wonder if lactose intolerance also come into play with this disease.
I never had a problem before dx...

Lactose can play a HUGE part in this disease. I can't have it. I stick to lactose free milk and popsicles instead of ice cream. I will ocassionally have a spoonful of regular ice cream if I need that craving satisfied but that's it. It totally sucks! =(

I had that problem for a while and I learned that I could drink it ICED, and it would not bother me. Found out that fixing the way I like to drink it and pouring it over ice changed something in the chemical makeup and then I could drink it and not run.

I am in a better place today and can have a cup if I want, but I know I am still risking it. So I just make sure I am not going anywhere when I have it just in case.

But basically, try it iced. Found Hazelnut flavored either by creamer or the coffee beans taste the best over ice.

Good Luck

Nope not iced either. I tried it iced and as a frapaccino and it took a little while longer but it still had the same effect. I don't know what I am going to do in North Carolina this winter without my hot cup of coffee! I can't do hot chocolate either! =(

I would just have to crawl in a cave and never come out if I couldn't have my morning java. When I first went to the doctor for "d" when I was 17 he told me I was lactose intolerent. I dealt with it for years. Then I was told I had IBS on top of that. At the age of 46 I found out I had Crohn's on top of all that but for some reason after my resection dairy doesn't bother me anymore. Maybe I had Crohn's or IBS all that time (29 years) and was never lactose intolerant. Can you outgrow it?

I am sorry to say, not a frapaccino. Straight over ice, I cannot do the frapaccino either, something about the way it is made. Making it and pouring it straight over ice was the only thing I could do. Could not do anything else. You might give it a try.

I have not made it at home and then poured it over ice so let's try it and see. I feel like I would like to crawl into a cave most of the day. Today I was just staring at my computer and my eyes were literally shutting! Luckily for me, my Husband is my boss and if I don't feel good he'll go easy on me!

Does he get to send you home? That's the kind of boss I'd like to have.

I'll go home but only if I really am not functioning well! My phones don't stop ringing so I feel bad leaving him sometimes... then I start to get phone calls from clients that love to tell me there whole life stories and don't understand when I have to rush them off the phone. All my guilt pretty much goes away right there and then!

I find that coffee affects me the way most other foods and drinks:  sometimes I'm fine and sometimes I feel sick and have D.  Can't really make heads or tails out of this DD.  So I just take it day by day and if I'm feeling ok I'll have a cup of coffee and hope for the best.  I really enjoy a cup of iced coffee in the warm weather.  Sometimes I wish I could find a definite link between what I eat or drink and how it affects me.  Then I would know what not to eat. I do however stay away from the definite no-no's like nuts, raw fruits and veges, seeds, etc.  This DD is soooo frustrating!

For the longest time I would get nausead and vomit from coffee. The only way I was able to drink coffee was to add 1 packet of hot cocoa to the cup of coffee. I also use lactaid brand milk. I also found that if I bought cheap coffee, it would make me sick. When I bought better quality coffee I no longer had to add the hot cocoa.
Now I allow myself 1 cup of coffee a day. I now but Folgers Gourmet BRand coffee

So I stay away from cocoa

Wow! I have a lot of triggers, but coffee is not one of them. I practically live on coffee all day. And I don't get D from it. In fact it soothes me!

I guess I am one of the lucky ones. Sorry guys!
