confused  So im super excited about my 21st birthday coming up. Even though things have been going crapty for me (excuse my language). Anyways so I still don't have a job, and im not currently eligable to ssi/disability...my psych. doc. might recomend it later if my meds don't work. So im just wondering what the hell im gonna do to pay for my Pentasa, its 100$ for a weeks worth mad im sure many of you know what im talking about here. So right now I have a medical card and I can't have it past the age of 21 unless I end up getting ssi or get a job with good insurance which I doubt will happen soon because i've been having troubles in the job field. Anyways I think I can get my anti-depresant meds covered somehow from the place I go to, but I haven't figured out how im gonna be getting my Pentasa (Crohn's meds). Anyone have suggestions for me? I live in Iowa so I dont know if theres anything national or whatever. I did find a site that listed something called Shire US Patient Assistance Program which I guess helps you pay for Pentasa and a couple other meds if your eligible, but I still have to call tommarow to look into it. Well if anyone can help please do that'd be great! \

& by the way I have over a months worth in extra meds because I got lots of samples and got all of my refills since they were free with my card. so im good until at least early December on my meds.

Hi, You might want to come in Montreal for a day and purchase your pentasa here. You get 240 pills of 500mg/each for 160.00$ cdn. So it might be worth the trip since in your area this is almost the price for 1 week supply. Maybe you have relative or friends in Montreal??? Just a tought. Also I know that some drugs companies will help get your meds when you can't pay for it, so you might want to look into that also. I am sure someone from the U.S. will come along and tell you how to go about getting your meds for Crohn's. God know it is a must for all crohners to at least have the meds that helps. Keep well and I am sure that things will work out for you!

apply for medicaid and your meds will be covered. Use it until you can get a good job with good benefits. That's what I did to get myself through college. Good luck!

Here are a few links to sites that might be able to help you get teh meds free or at reduced price. I was once in your shoes as you figuring how how to afford meds.
I paid a one time $5 processing fee and then I recieved my meds for free. The meds were sent to my doctors office, then they would notify me to come and get them. It was a lifesaver for me at the time.

Hello....

If your CD is as bad as it sounds, you should try applying for SSDI/SSI. It took me 7 months to get it, BUT now everything is covered and they re-imbursed me for any out-of-pocket medical expenses.

As for right now, you might be able to get state help, or Medicaid, but I would suggest you start the application process for SSDI as soon as possible. It's kind of daunting, but worth it in the end. If you don't want to go that route, that's fine, but if you do and you have more questions about it, feel free to e-mail me @ sleepydacarebear@aol.com

What ever you do dont wait for the last minute Medicade takes 3 months to go through thats if you get it on the first try. Usually if you go to the hospital then the social worker there can help you fill out papers for Medicade so the hospital can get paid.
