Right now all i take is remicade (well i am on pred for a flare currently also) but they just had to raise it up to 10mg/kg becasue it wasnt doing its job. Im wondering how many of you who are on cade are on other CD meds as well, and if the combo works for you. In the past i have been on pentasa, entodort and 6mp(whoch i cant tolerate, shut doen my liver and kidneys). Im seeing my doc on monday and i just wonder if maybe more meds added on would help. not lookin for answers just was curious:)

I am just on Remicade. Had my first infusion last Friday. I didn't notice any
improvement until 3 days after the infusion. Now I no longer feel fatigued,
and can drink coffee again without the urge to keep going to the bathroom.
Sure missed that coffee.

I have never been on any medicine except prednisone for 3 months, which ended in May.
I then tried to go Med free, but had to give in and take the remicade because my
fistula kept causing recurring abscesses.
So far I am having no luck with the remicade closing the fistula.

Remicade alone wasn't doing it for me. Found out that since my terminal ilium is gone, i'll have Diarrhea because my system doesn't digest bile. They put me on Questran. OMG. It works like you wouldn't believe. I went from 8-10 liquid BM's a day to 4, mostly solid.

Questran isn't a Crohn's med per say, but helps control Diarrhea. I haven't flared in quite sometime, but I've had Diarrhea for ever. Hopefully my blood tests will come back good.

Hi Lynn Just wanted to say that it took about 3 infusions of Rem. to close mine. So give it some time Hi Bunny yes I am on Imu. and my last week of pred. The combo has helped keep the pain away but I am getting some D weaning off the pred. but I also have a chest cold so not my greatest week. Hoping to put this cold behind me soon How long have you been on the Rem?I did notice a big difference after they raised my dose of Rem. Lots of good Bm's and gas going out. I have a lot of gurgling going on still but no night sweats yes!!! lol gail

Hi,

I am on Remicade and imuran also (imuran is also called "azathioprine"). I too used to be just on Remicade, which worked well for me; however, my GI had me meet with a doctor who does research solely on Crohn's treatments, and he said that using imuran while on Remicade helps the Remicade to do its job better--thus, healing my insides more completely, which lowers my risk of colon cancer in the future. That convinced me that being on it in addition to Remicade is worthwhile.

You said you can't tolerate 6MP--I believe imuran is similar, though I could be wrong. Perhaps ask your doc. about this med? I have been on the combo for about a year now, and feeling well.

Good Luck! :-)

I am no longer on Remicade, however, the entire time I was on Remicade i took (and continue to take) 150mg of Azathioprine daily. I guess its kinda like 6mp, but idk. i can tell later on in the day if i've forgotten to take it, so it helps... but its not enough to control my crohns on its own.

edit: oh and ltordo, i'd switch to decaff if you havent already. i used to drink mtn dew very heavily, but then after a huge flare i made an effort to stop... and my symptoms improved dramatically. caffeine is a pretty strong (and VERY common) bowel irritant.

I recently restarted Remicade infusions, and I also take Purinethol, Colazal, and Nexium for Crohns. I am also tapering off of prednisone, since I have steroid resistant disease, and the prednisone has done nothing for me except give me horrid night sweats, acne, and wild mood swings. Take care.

Bane:
I have decided to use decaff. I also just found out that one of my biggest enemies is coffee. Any sort. But I am sure decaff will do it.

I am not allowed to have any other med's than prednisone. So no remicade and no humira or Imuran or whatever for me.

I'm on,, Renegade.....Better than all the meds, I find. I get a dose of it every chance I get. Very relaxing at times and exciting at others. Its a self medicating sort of thing. I just crank it up, drop it in gear , get a hand full of throttle and forget my troubles for a while. Ohhh, it a Harley,,,from Renegade Harley Davidson that is.

thats what im mostly worried about. i had to have my remicade dosage upped but it doesnt seem to be helping and ive also been on the pred for 4 months! so seriously what do you do when it doesnt work. metho? humira?

i call my doc to get my colonoscopy results in a week and hopefully ill get an appointment to see my options. or hopefully itll be the fissure and hemmies that are causing all the blood that i have been having. i dont know. i see my colo-rectal guy today tho so maybe he will have an idea. might need more agressive treatment for that we shall see. i just want to be on a med that works and i cant understand why the pred hasnt healed me. i just hate not knowing.

thank you for all your replies!
