If you still have pain and D, then don't taper off the Entocort. IN fact, maybe you went down to 6mg too soon. Have you tried taking Entocort at 9mg for the full 8 weeks?
And then, after the initial 8 weeks at 9mg, the FDA has approved Entocort as a maintenance med at 6 mg for another 12 weeks.
HOwever, my daughter has been on it for about a year and a half, and is in full remission. Since May, only 3 mg and no side effects. In July 2006 she tried to taper off, but ended up in a flare, so now she isn't taking any chances. Meds are not always as effective the second time around...sure enough, the second time she took Entocort it took her longer to go into full remission.
Dr. Abreu at Mt. Sinai was fine with how long my daughter has been on Entocort, saying that they have patients who have been on it for years.
