I am desperate! My almost 8 year old has been sick since she was five. It started with a vague stomach ache that turned into excruciating bouts of pain. I thought it was appendicitis but they kept finding other infections and would give her tons of antibiotics and she would be fine. The last bout i made them give her a cat scan it was appendicitis and it had ruptured. I thought ok we are fixed it was the appendix all along. No it started again right after she got better from the surgery and infection. This brought us to the pediatric gastro. Test after test has showed nothing she is scheduled for a colonoscopy next Monday. These are her symptoms terrible stomach pain that lortab wont take away, bouts of diarrhea that sometimes has no color, bouts of fatigue, she is either freezing or is having hot sweaty flashes, she had blood this week it was just a little but it had the consistency of mucous, she says her bowels feel like they are on fire and crampy. This last bout she lost five pounds and can't put it back on. I have to carry a bag of pain pills wherever we go cause you never know when it is going to hit. Could this be crohn's? I would appreciate any comments. Thank you for your time!

Hi. Yes this could def. be Crohn's. It sure sounds like my Crohn's. This is how it can start and or be for a long time. I have had it for almost 6 years now and am now 27 years old. This is exactly what I go through with my Crohn's and flare-ups. There is hope if it is Crohn's. Find a good GI Dr. now and doing a Colonoscopy ASAP is what you need to be doing right now. Fatigue comes along with Crohn's. Get her iron checked ASAP as well. You always want to be careful though @ her young age. She could be iron deficient which will cause Fatigue and this is normal for Crohn's. I sure wish I could help more.....
Let me know if I can help in any way please. Good Luck with everything! Do not give up! Stay positive for your 8 year old.

Welcome to Healing Well, pattymary! I'm so sorry that your daughter has been so ill. As a mother myself, I totally understand the frustration and worry that goes with having a sick kiddo.

I think you are on the right tract with the colonoscopy. It really gives the GI the best view of the interior of the colon and possibly the lower end of the small bowel. While her symptoms are like those found in Crohn's, it is impossible to known until the testing is complete. Hang in there! I hope the docs find the cause of her problems quickly.

Hi Patty Welcome to HW and am glad you got her to a specialist and that she is gettting a scope to see what is going on with her.The sweats can be a part of CD that's for sure. You"ll have to see what her GI says .Keep in touch and let us know how things are going. How is she eating now? lol gail

We are having a bad attack today. Her pain is coming and going. Half and hour a little pain the next half hour screaming pain that is not being controlled by lortab. Waiting to hear from the doc on whether she needs to go to the er. Keep your fingers crossed!

Hi Patty if her pains are that bad I would take her to emerg. sounds to me that whatever is wrong with her needs more attention then she can get at home. Maybe they can get things under control enough so that the pains can be managed. They can also do test there if needed. lol gail
