Hey! I have had Crohn's for about 4 years now, and am currently in a flare. I take remicade every 8 weeks to keep me in remission, but I moved to Texas and had complications getting it right away, but luckily I get it on Wednesday and hopefully I will be up and running again! Anyways all of that was just to say, how does everyone else stay hydrated during a flare? I had been trying to drink Gatorade and water which was not working too well. On my boyfriend's suggstion I drank some Pedialite (the stuff they give babies for diarrea) which seems to be working some I guess...the nausea has faded away at least. Does anyone else have suggestions? eyes

Stay away from the Gatorade. Most sports drinks are loaded with sugar which is a definite NO NO for the D. Boyfriend had a good idea with the Pedialite. I think they make popscycles out of the Pedialite now too, don't they? You could make your own. Yogurt smoothies made with a cup of any flavor yogurt & four ice cubes in a blender helps make my tummy feel better, gives me good bacteria in the digestive track and the ice helps hydrate of course.

I agree that pedialyte is the way to go. But, if you like the flavor of gatorade you can always fill a cup with ice and maybe a quarter gatorade and the rest water. That should be diluted enough to be more gentle on your tummy.

I drink the pedialyte as well but my D is totally out of control right now so I am constantly dehydrated. I have a standing order at the Hospital and I can go in and get IV fluids whenever I need them. A few hours and a few litres later and I feel soooo much better!!

I drink boulion. I know the salt content is bad, but they do make a low sodium version. But the salt helps my nausea. So I am never without my travel mug. I'm sure the world thinks I'm a coffee junky but really its chicken boulion.

Don't you love those IV infustions. I call them my spa days because going in I look so haggard and coming out I look like a dewy peach!

Thanks for all the suggestions! I had no idea that gatorade was so bad, it was all they gave me last time I was hospitalized! The pedialite is helping tremendously though!
