This question is inspired by the thread about Chronies with C. I have C and then finally D. After being diagnosed I've tried to stay away from fiber foods but now I'm thinking I should start taking extra fiber. Also starting to take some stool softeners but don't know how that will affect my D. How do you guys deal with the C and D combo?

i usually have D but when i come off of prednisone and sometimes in between i have C. My doctor prescribes Miralax (which is also over the counter now) its so gentle it is used with babies. you take one capful in any beverage at night and i keeps me regualr without giving me D. its tasteless and such a fine powder that you dont even know its there at all.

Hi Ohana, I would stay away from fiber. You will have alot of problems with it. I tryed medimucal
it messed up my system. My GI doctor to stay away from that.

On days when I'm not having D, I take two Colace tablets (no stimulant). I'd say it's a "fair" solution. Usually resolves C within 48 hours -- doesn't work the next day for me. I've been told not to start metamucil or other fiber yet, so it's the best I can do for now. Drink LOTS of water, too!

I have had docs go both ways with me. One says stay away from fiber and one says I should take fiber. So at the present time I'm taking a fiber tablet every morning and 2 stool softners at night time. To be honest I really can't tell much difference taking them or not. I still go back and forth with C and D. The only thing they have told me not to do is take laxatives so I stay away from them.

I take stool softeners and also take metamucil or eat oatmeal. when I try to eat the non soluable fiber ie wheat bread it makes me more plugged up.

good luck with your quest to find your balance. =0) It will come
