From what I've been told in the past year since my diagnosis, is one of the "tell tale signs" of Crohns flare is mucos with going to the bathroom. I've had "regular" and "d" every different shade and consistency of the alphabet - so how do I know if what I'm looking at is mucous? Sorry if it is gross, but my MD keeps asking me, and I can't really give a yes/no response.

It literally looks like snot in the toilet. For me personally, I have visible strings of it mixed in with my BM. Some people will go to the bathroom, and only pass mucus. It just depends.

You are right, onebloodonelife....snot is the best way to describe it!

I have had stools covered in it like a cocoon - for lack of a better description. And I am one that will pass only mucosa at times.

I have the same problem. I have only D. So when I am done it is basically a bowl full of black/brown water. How can I tell if its mucus? Yet they all want to know. So really after almost 20 years, I still don't know how to answer the question.
