A lady was thought to have an eating disorder and she was pregnant.  They had admitted her to the psyche ward and everything......but she only had crohns!   They FINALLY figured it out!

Yep, saw it. Actually they thought she had munchhausen, since she seemed to be sick so much. I had a feeling when they mentioned stomach distress and autoimmune that they would find Chrohn's. Interesting show.

I had just flipped to the show when the doc walked in, and said you have Crohns. We got a mention! May not have been perfect but it was mentioned.

We canadians only saw it tonight....but I had her diagnosed before they did too. I liked the part where he told her that her baby had a very good chance of being just fine.! Hurray. Confirms all our pregnancy and CD stories on this forum.
It's a weird thing, but I had just been reading an article about munchhausen today in Psychology today, otherwise I wouldn't have had a clue what they were talking about.
I like Private Practice....one of my favorites.

I think it is great to see a condition that a lot of us live with daily on a t.v. show like this. More people need to be aware of this condition. Talking about my condition and how it changes my life is a daily piece of conversation with a lot of my clients. No one knows what it is unless their family is some how affected by it.

I had it diagnosed right away, too before they did on the show.

Read the blog on TV.Guide.com.. it calls the disease "a weird GI disorder."

That person should only know..

Sounds like exactly what I went through, only my GYN just kept telling me I was having a "difficult" pregnancy. I decided to have my tubes tied because of it, at the age of 21, before I was diagnosed with the CD. It took 2 years after my pregnancy to figure it out, a couple doctors thinking it was an eating disorder, too bad I wasn't on television, lol.

Long, long time ago. I just thank God that my daughter was born healthy at 7.12 lbs. I weighed 135 lbs. when I had her, a stick figure with a tummy the size of a basketball.

Yup, I had her diagnosed too. I love how they were all excited that she had a Crohn's though. Makes it look like its a nothing. I suppose it is better than a psychological disorder where you try to hurt yourself or your child but still it is a life long disease with a lot of issues associated with it. I know, be grateful we got mentioned, its a start!

When I first got sick at 19, and the dr's hadn't figured out what was wrong with me, one dr. told my parents that I had a eating disorder. I think it was one of their first thoughts - 19 year old female who is 5'8" weighing about 100lbs, I can see why someone might think that. MB

Yeah, I can understand also, but when voluntarily go to the doctors complaining of pain and not being able to eat, someone should get it.

Can I ask what your symptoms were when you were a child and if they were any different than your adult symptoms? My friend's child has been sick for years and we have always suspected an eating disorder, but now I'm wondering if I should suggest that they get the blood test for Crohn's. Her daughter is all skin and bones, has a real finicky stomach, and a lot of diahrea. On the other hand, I was recently diagnosed with Crohn's and I was able to eat whatever I wanted as a child. However, I was always sick. The doctor said that I had a bad immune system because of all of the allergies I had. (over 50 allergens). I'm worried about my daughter also having Crohn's. She is dizzy and fainting a lot. She has had trouble with constipation and seems to be often sick to her stomach and having bad headaches. Anyway, what were your childhood symptoms...if you dont mind sharing?

I was small for my age, I had diarrhea, stomach pain, was diagnosed with duodenal ulcers at 10 (that we later realized was probably CD). Missed a lot of school. This was way back when my family doctor made house calls, we didn't have insurance, was only hospitalized under the most dire circumstances. My parents were told it was stress related.

Everyone manifests this disease differently. Hopefully your friends daughter has been tested for many things with her symptoms.

I love Gray's Anatomy and I'm trying to like Private Practice. I was doing laundry and stuff while it was on so I missed a lot, but I kept thinking it sounded like what I had my whole life. It's nice to get a mention on a prime time TV show, but I had to laugh when the mom gave them 1 hour to do another test and they did the capsule endoscopy. Um.........mine was for 8 hours. Also, like someone else mentioned, they were all so thrilled to tell her she had Crohn's disease. LOL Ah, well..........
