I was wondering if I really need to be taking my 5-ASA med (Colazal).  I am already taking Remicade.  I have had several flares over the years despite being on some kind of mesalamine based medication the entire time.  Of course I would never stop taking it w/o d/w my GI doc, but I wondered if anyone here had some input.  Take care!

Current Meds include:Colazal, Prednisone, Nexium and Remicade

I can't give you an opinion about it being combined with Remicade...I only take Pentasa right now. The only thing I can say is that I am learning the hard 5 ASA medication vacation was not a good idea. I went without the Pentasa for quite a while and I am now in a flare for the first time in years and I can't seem to settle it down.
Dx'd '90 (emergency rupture), symptoms ignored long before that, '03 fistulas and bad flagyl reactions, B12 weekly, Pentasa [until I surrender to the bigger meds]
I'm riding on the escalator of life....

Yeah I tried to stop taking my Asacol right after my last resection thinking that I didn't need it anymore. I ended up getting sick. Went back on it and felt back to normal again. The 5 ASA meds help to keep the inflammation down.
Been living with Crohn's Disease for 32 years.  Currently on Asacol, Prilosec 60 mg, Estrace, Prinivil, Diltiazem, Percoset prn for pain and Calcium.  Resections in 2002 and 2005.  Recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and doing tests to see if I have Inflammatory Arthritis or AS.

I used to think the same thing. In March I had been on Asacol for a year, and I had a few minor flares. So I said to myself "I don't need this stuff!" LOL After a few weeks of going off of it I started going in to one whopper of a flare. I rushed down and got my Asacol filled and have not looked back! It doesn't stop flares, but it does seem to make them less sever and less frequent for me anyway.
Diagnosed with mild Crohn's Disease 2/06 after sever GI bleed. Has been suffering since 1998. History of rectal fistula and gallbladder removal. Currently taking Asacol and Questran.
