I was diagnosed in September and am currently on 6mg of Entocort, Asacol, and Remicade with Phenegran and  Hyrdocodone as needed. I have been on 9mg on Entocort and last week just moved down to 6mg. Anyways, lately sometimes when I use the bathroom(bowel movement) there is a lot of blood in the toilet. I'm not having any pain though in my stomach and it's also not D. I have a skin tag that gets irritated sometimes and also have an open wound from an abscess I had drained that still drains sometimes and a lot of times after I take the bandage off after I've had a bowel movement it's full of blood. The blood isn't actually in my stool. Its like it comes out after so I'm not really sure where it's coming from? Anybody else have a similar situation? Or is there a way to tell if the blood is actually coming from inside me or if its coming from the open wound where the abscess was? And since I just recently cut back on the Entocort I was wondering if that had anything to do with it to? Any help would be greatly appreciated : )

It's always hard to tell where blood is coming from, but in general bright red blood is from low down -- perhaps the wound or hemmies -- while dark, clotted or black blook is from higher up in the GI tract. If it is not mixed with or coating the stool it is also likely from a source near the rectum.

I basically had this same problem a couple of weeks ago, except I have a fistula with a seton in it. I was getting toilet bowls full for bright red blood. It would actually start running out before I had a bm. My gi started me on flagyl, and ordered an mri to see if I had any other fistulas, or cavities that could be contributing to the blood.

Do you know that there is a 50% chance that your abscess will turn into a fistula? With that being said, you could have a fistula......

I had a fistula that actually caused the abscess but I had that drained last december. That was what left the open wound that I still have now. I went to a colorectal surgeon in June and his thought was that there was a fistula still where the open wound was so he did exploratory surgery under anesthisia (sp?) and if he found a fistula he was going to put a seton in. He explored the wound and did several tests to find a fistula but never did. He put a drainage tube into the open wound in the hopes that it might heal around that. Keep in mind that at this time, my Chron's disease was unknown. The tube fell out 2 weeks later. I started having the D and lots of pain though in August and then in the first part of September had another exploratory surgery under anesthesia and colonoscopy and that's when they found the Chrons. There was no sign of a fistula at that time either and they decided that the wound just wasn't healing because of the Chrons.
