I haven't been around much lately because I got very ill last week - fever and the all over "exploding joint" feeling. GI thought it most likely a serum sickness problem from the Humira. On prednisone for a quick burst. The fever has continued plus chest pain on the left side. Saw my primary today because of the fever and when I was returning from the lab I had a near syncopal episode. That earned me trip to the ER and a complete cardiac workup. They wanted to keep me overnight for observation but I just could not stay. The dang guerneys were so hard it was making my joints hurt worse. The cardiac tests showed I did not have a heart attack last week but there were some changes on the EKG since my last in 1990. That's why they wanted to keep me....
The ER doc thinks it is likely still a serum sickness problem so BACK on the dreaded prednisone. Have to go to internal medicine tomorrow so they can look at me some more.
There is a lot more to this story but I am worn out from the fever and the long day. Just felt I had to tell someone that I went AMA...I never thought I would do such a thing.

Wow Ides, you really must be fed up with the whole shebang. Can't say I blame you actually - you've had quite the wild ride the past few weeks or so.

I'm sorry you've been going thru all of this and I hope you get back on the road to wellness soon. Is it me or is it the time of year? Everyone I know seems to be fed up with just about everything lately (including those of us who have chronic illnesses).

Not sure if I am happy that you did not stay over night but I know what you mean about the amenities. You get that ticker checked out though. I know from experience that it is nothing that can be ignored. Take care of yourself and let us know how you are doing.

(((hugs))), Ides! I hope and pray this passes quickly for you and that you start feeling better again SOONEST!

Thank goodness our hospital now has a Chest Pain Clinic. If one goes into ER for chest pain and there is reason for them to want to keep you for 24 hours observation you are immediately sent to the CPC after the ER testing. In the CPC you have a somewhat smaller than regular private room and a regular hospital bed, not a gurney.

Ides, you've really been through the ringer. You'll follow up right away right? The heart is nothing to mess with, but I understand about the joint pain. Do they really think this is a reaction to the Humira? Please keep us posted.

Ides, I hope you feel better soon. I know my suggestion will make you laugh but did you tell them that you couldn't hack it because of your joints? Giving your co-condition I would think they would try to better accomodate you - either on a better bed or with some pain meds. I'm guessing you were vocal and they just didn't care in which case, Id say complaint time.

Sometimes when people go AMA, your insurance company won't pay for any of your stay. Try to make sure your doctors signed you out properly, or can advocate for you. I sure hope you feel better soon!

Wouldn't that be more of a problem if she went in AMA not out AMA? If I read this right she checked OUT AMA.

AMA is against medical advice.

Ides, hang in there. What you are going through is beyond comprehension. I definitely can understand the feeling of getting to the point where you feel like the only way to survive and not implode or explode is to go home! Hopin' your ticker is okay!!

Ides, I'm so sorry to hear about your experience. Can totally relate to how uncomfortable those stupid gurneys are, and how frustrating it is to be parked in the ER for hours. I haven't been on for awhile, not sure if you've posted since this, but hoping you're feeling better by now. Have they followed up on your abn. EKG yet? I hope you don't have serum sickness, but more I hope you don't have cardiac problems. Have they mentioned doing a Persantine/Cardiolyte stress test? That would probably be the doc's first choice, tho' there are plenty of other types of stress tests. Hoping you're feeling better by now, and I'm just way behind as usual. Bets
