Do you feel a wave/shiver come over you before you feel the need for a BM?

Sometimes I get the weirdest shiver sensation, get dizzy and nauseous and then I feel the urge to have a bowel movement. I don't always have the BM because right now I'm battling constipation. But, it's like my body is responding to something moving around in my guts. Sometimes I feel like I might pass out or just go crazy! Does anyone have a similar feeling?

Yep, it's normal of us crohnnies. I think the term might be tenesmus. At least that's what I think it is when I have it, but for me it is never associated with constipation. Just from excessive action on the bowel front

yep, I have that too sometimes. (I did not realize there was a name for it) Also sometimes I get a waive of nausea when a flare up is about to start and I know the D is coming soon!

Tenesmus is the constant feeling of the need to empty the bowel, accompanied by pain, cramping, and involuntary straining efforts.

I used to get the chills on the toilet and feel really drained when I had frequent BM's...I figured it was because I was spending soooo much time sitting on a cold porcelin toilet and pooping out so much poop (which I relate to as being insulation).

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it!  LOL  :)

Wow...I have that too. Sometimes it's so unsettling I have to sit around and regain my composure after I leave the bathroom for about 15 min. Now that's a workout!

creepy. this used to happen to me too. not as much any more now that i have changed my diet (i think going organic was a big help in this). it was miserable - it was like all of a sudden, in an instant, you had to go super bad and you had a matter of seconds to find the bathroom and i'd feel nauseous and get a chill/cold sweat at times too. man, i had totally forgotten those horrible days until i read this post. ugh. i hope those days are way behind me now.

I had a rough night last week after eating shrimp and had the bad pains and a very bad cold sweat didn't know if I'd make it back to bed so had to wake my teen up but managed to make it. It can be quite bad at times those old sweats and leave a person weak. I think it might be a food allergy for me at times that might do that although I don't get any rashes .Not sure if people always get rashes with food allergies. lol gail

Hmmm...I haven't had that sensation in quite some time, but I remember it vividly!  For me it is associated with D.  But for me, D is not always associated with nausea/chills/etc.  It was always when I had eatten something that did not agree with me.  Then my body would try to get rid of said offender until there was nothing left--kindof like when you've thrown up everything, even the bile and then you stop.

Hey, me, too. I've learned that whenever I start feeling nausea coming in waves, it means I'm going to need to hit the bathroom very soon. It took me a long, long time to recognize the pattern. It's pretty inescapable. But at least it means I get a little warning (sometimes) that I should start thinking about where a bathroom might be.

I get the chills after eating food - lunch & dinner. Sometimes, after BM too (say after very long BM). It goes away after some time.

I get that too, The nausea....I don't know which end its going to come of first....Its usally my back end, but I've often had it coming out both at once....I get the chills /cold sweats really badly. My teenage daughter had to rescue me from the bathroom at 3 am. the other night too. I wouldn't have made it back to my bedroom.
Has anyone ever actually passed out from those chills/cold sweats weakness, cramping episodes. ? I've come so close so often, I've now put something in front of me in the bathroom that I can lay my head on while I regain my strength.

I've passed out numerous times from the cramping, sweats and pain while having D.  In college, I cut my chin and needed stiches from passing out and hitting something.  And I passed out twice in my high school years in public places.   It was soooo awful.    After I had a total hysterectomy six years ago (I had endometriosis around the bowel), I've only passed out once while in the middle of the cramps/sweats/pain.   My family knows to just bring me a cold rag for the back of my neck, some ice water to drink, a pillow, and then leave me alone - since I usually end up having to take all my clothes off because I'm drenched in sweat.

On the bright side, when the cramps ease up, you get that great carthasis feeling.
