Hi. I have a teenage son with Crohns presently on Remicade and Imuran and still not in remission. He has lately been complaining about
having an uncontrollable urge to swallow immediately when he puts something in his mouth. Has anyone else experience this or have any idea what may be causing this? Could it be related to Crohns? Thanks in advance for your responses.

I and welocme to the forum,I wished I could help you with this but I don't have a clue have you talked to your son's GI?if not you may want to bring it to his/her attention. Please let us know what you find out.

Thanks for your supportive response. I talked to his primary caare pediatrician who had no idea what it might be. My son is not a complainer and if he is talking about
it it must be bothering him. I will talk to his GI about
it. Thanks again,

Sometimes, I feel like I can't swallow - like a panic attack sort of feeling. I don't know if your son is experiencing a 'panic attack' sort of response, where he feels like he must swallow immediately. Or if he's just a super-hungry teenager....either way, I would also recommend talking to his doctor. I'm not aware of this being a Crohn's type of symptom, but maybe it is.

If you look it up, the urge to swallow is sometimes attributed to tonsilitis, but I'm not sure that would have anything to do with your son or putting food into his mouth, however I know some people have issues with their tonsils with Crohn's.
