Anyone else here deal with sensitive or bleeding gums? I've always been in good dental health, but I recently developed bleeding gums. My dentist mentioned that, aside from plaque build up, it could be caused in part by Crohn's. I get such conflicting info from all my doctors (my GI says my rashes/legions are caused by Crohn's while my Dermatologist denies that, etc) I just wanted to see if anyone here had had a similar problem? At this point I imagine it has something to do with my weakened immune system on the remicade.

I have had several gum disease issues in the past. My gums still bleed a lot. I think it has something to do with the disease because I've always brushed/flossed like I'm supposed to. I have it no matter what type of medication I'm taking.

Diagnosed with Crohn's in 1995.
Have used Prednisone, Flagyl, Cipro, Pentasa, and Imuran in the past.
Currently on Humira.
One stricture in distal ileum.
No surgeries yet.

Yeah Crohns has done a number on my gums AND my teeth. I think part of it is the disease and part because of our meds.
Been living with Crohn's Disease for 32 years.  Currently on Asacol, Prilosec 60 mg, Estrace, Prinivil, Diltiazem, Percoset prn for pain and Calcium.  Resections in 2002 and 2005.  Recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and doing tests to see if I have Inflammatory Arthritis or AS.

i don't have bleeding gums but, have minor gum disease according to my dentist.

was told that it has to do with the meds i was and currently on. plus i'm lactose intolerant which means that i don't get enough calcium for my teeth.

In the past year or so I've developed minor gum disease. My gums are very sensitive, injure easily, and stay mildly inflammed looking. My periodontist says that they're Crohn's-related. A combo of immune system dysfunction and meds.

-Formal diagnosis of Crohn's Disease in ileum in July 2005.
-Experienced what were most likely flares for 12-15 yrs.
-6-MP, protonix, cymbalta, wellbutrin, trazadone, miralax, allegra, celebrex

I guess I'm an oddball because I've been in some degree of a flare from severe to moderate my entire 16 yrs of having CD and my gums and teeth are in excellent shape.

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it!  LOL  :)

thank you so much! You are all very helpful as usual. It's just nice to know you're not alone, you know. Going to talk to my dentist tomorrow and see if anything can be done to help--I'm already on a prescription rinse but it's just getting worse.
