I just started the oral methotrexate, but the doctor wants me to switch to the shots when I am done traveling because he thinks they "work better." He did not say anything about
folic acid, but the research I did indicated that it is a good idea to take folic acid with methotrexate in order to counteract the drug's suppression of the production of red blood cells. From what I read, it is best to take the folic acid pre-emptively instead of waiting to see if you develop anemia. I am taking the MX with Remicade but was on Humira at one time without enough help for the arthritis and iritis.
