Been gone for awhile. Working on xmas projects and haven't had time to check in. I am currently taking Immuran 200 mg (but it has only been about 1 1/2 months so it hasn't kicked in yet I guess. I am also taking Colazol (9 pills a day, this medication is like Pentasa and Asocal). Along with a few other over the counter things. Anyway, I ordered my medications from my on line pharmacy and I ran out before I got my refills. I went 2 days without my colazol (I had enough Immuran). I started feeling all the old symptoms, fatique, achey joints and stomach irritation. I got a refill locally and started taking it again. I felt better by the next day. But now 4 days later I still am not "right" and my tummy is bugging me (I have lost my appetite -- this is a sure fire indication that there is something wrong). I don't want to call my doctor and bug him. Was wondering if I took 10 mg of pred for a week and then tapered down to 5mg for a week if it would help. That is to say will 10 mg be enough to kick my body out of this funk?
On the bright side I know that the Colazol is working and I'm not taking 9 horse pills a day for no reason. On the down side I'm wondering if the Immuran is going to work.... I know that it can take 2-3 months to kick in all the way......
Anyway, thanks for any advice and I hope that all of you have a wonderful Christmas!

One blessing that came with my Crohns: I thank God for each day that I can get out of bed and take care of my girls and my home.

I would definitly call your GI and ask them what to do and explain to them what happened as far as the meds and running out. I am bad and will self medicate if it is my joints that are acting up but only use it for a week and I would do as a medrol dose pack would do. I have not done that since I have been on Humira though since it has stopped 98% of my joint pain and is putting my gut into remission.

I also know when it is safe for me to do that since I have had CD for 20 years now you I see have only been Dx for 1 year it is a bit tougher in your situation because of that. I would not self medicate with pred. I would call and ask about the Medrol Dose pack. What this does is give you 6 days of solumedrol...(a version of pred) you take 6 pills the 1st day 5 the next, 4 the next...etc these pills are not the same dose as regular pred either and you typically need a high dose of pred if you are flaring then taper so I would call your GI and I know it is the long weekend but someone has to be on call!
