Been smoking again for the past month and a half after quitting for 7 years...I ran out of pain patches and couldn't get into see the Dr. so I was getting bad withdrawls. I decided to have a smoke to take the edge off and have been puffing since. Now I have to quit this stupid habit again. :(

I actually do better smoking, I quit for 3 yrs and my flare at the time took a terrible turn for the worst, 30+ BM's/day with alot of mucus and bleeding....I started smoking 6 cigs a day and things improved in combination with the natural anti-inflammatories I was taking.

I know they say smoking is bad for crohns and good for UC but nothing's written in stone...maybe because my CD is mainly affecting my colon where UC typically hangs out (and anus which is strictly a CD thing) but I know that carbon monoxide via smoking does help with inflammation in the colon...6 smokes a day I can live with, with all the pollution and crap we breath in everyday as it is, 6/day won't make much more of a difference.

Not encouraging anyone to smoke by any means, just sharing my own experiances.

Fixxer,

I know it's hard, but you CAN quit again. I quit many times in the past, hopefully this is it for me, it's been 8 months. I know I can't ever have "just one" cigarette, and I struggle with it every day, but I know in the long run it will be better for my CD. Good luck kicking the habit again, don't give up.

I used Zyban when I quit smoking, with great success and it didn't bother my stomach, my flare just went from bad to worse over the 3 yrs I had quit.

With the zyban I felt as if I had never been a smoker, it was the oddest sensation because I had quit many many times before that and I often craved a smoke, but with the zyban, not a single craving for me...it was so odd...I thought for sure I was done with smoking forever, and I would have been if my flare hadn't worsened like it did...I had to force myself to smoke again and practically threw up after only a couple of puffs on the first smoke (it wasn't even that bad when I initially started smoking as a young teen).

I quit with the Chantix this time around as the Wellbutrin made my blood pressure rise (it never did that before, getting old sucks, lol). Anyway, I only took 2 weeks of the Chantix (which is very expensive by the way, but my husband and I shared an Rx).

I quit originally with Zyban. It had just came out when I decided to give up the habit. It worked really good. I couldn't even stand to have a smoke because it tasted sooooo bad.

So are you gonna use it again? I felt the same way with it, I was more than ready to quit in the first 7 days of starting it.

open the kitchen cabinet door place head inside and with your free hand take cabinet door and slam repeatedly into head, thats what you get for starting up smoking again.

Fixxer, I feel for you. Right now I'm taking chantix, I've been taking it for a week, and I'm still waiting for those receptors to
quit. I still want to smoke, and I know I musn't. It's a hard road to travel.....

Hey Vicky,

Did you take the 1/2 dose the first week while still smoking? The next week you take the full dose and quit the smoking. The thing to remember is that if you cheat, have a cigarette or 2, don't give up. Keep taking the pills until you can quit 100%. The "habit" is the hardest part. I still miss my morning coffee and cigarette while reading the paper. Now I come on-line to keep my hands busy, I still have my coffee.

I hope you can do it, and I hope it helps the disease. Being so ill again after a long remission, at my age convinced me finally. I need all the help I can get with the disease and I was facing another surgery.

Quitting is hard, but hopefully the benefits will be worth it.
